okay so I bought doug Thorley headers and have not installed them because I live in CA.
I am currently trying to sell them BNIB on the classifieds.
I want to fix the ticking underhood, what other options do I have for CARB legal headers?
I would sarcastically try EMS. They've been working on headers for a while now...
But I'm pretty sure stock replacement is your legal option from what I've gathered. Or make friends with someone in NV or OR. Or swap your headers out for cracked stock manifold once a year to pass smog. Good luck. I hate my tick too, but now that I'm not living in cold weather, it's basically fixed itself. I guess that's option #4: move to a warmer climate.
I feel like I read somewhere that DT was getting their product CARB certified. That never happened?

I am using the Thorley's in CA I had no trouble passing smog. Depends on where you go to get tested. I know others on MUD have failed smog because of them.
You can pass but it's on the shady side of passing.......even though from a sniff test, you'd be fine. That fancy shine is a dead giveaway. The first thing you need to do is paint them flat black.
DT headers are NOT CARB legal and they sold them under the notion that they were. Pretty shady operation.
I had lunch with a MUD member this week who has gone up and down with this issue. The consensus is that it's VERY expensive for DT to go through the approval process and it probably won't happen. Just speculation at this point though.
Find a "No pass, No pay" station and give it a shot........ after you high heat paint them. You definitely don't want to swap them out every other year.

I'd try to also find some rusty old heat shields that covered the OEM exhaust manifolds as well. Between those and flat black high temp heat paint, maybe some mud also , you might go unnoticed.

Just paint them with flat black grill paint. 100Surf supposedly blew muddy water from a hose onto his before getting smogged and passed the visual test.
DT headers and catback installed 2 years ago & this was the 1st smog since. Beastie was smogged a couple weeks ago and no prob w/ visual & emissions test was almost zeros across the measurement profiles. Like everyone else, still waiting for the EO from DT.
