So what does this mean for us pioneer AVIC users?

AVIC:

If you want all of the capability incl ipod out stick with a 4s. If you go iPhone 5 you will lose all but audio. The new digital "Lighting" connector adapter doesn't pass video or iPod out (supporting Advanced App Mode).

I think he won't have anything to sell and all those people are going to be pissed. All reports so far the connector has special software/encryption and third party cables/adapters will not be around for a long time...

I've been using mine BT only with my Clarion but I'll try to pick up an Apple adapter and report back. I need one for the house anyhow so if it doesn't work I won't be out any $. BT works fine for music and calls in my 100 though.

No skin off my back either way as I don't really intend to connect my iPhone for that type of use. I bought a used nano to leave in the 100 glove box. But I'll give it a try either way. I suspect my Clarion will have a similar issue to you AVIC guys though.

So presumably the problem is with the adapter and the issue will be resolved when pioneer or some other party releases a cable that plugs into the avic iPod dongle?

The avic is a hybrid... Digital in terms of USB connectivity but analog video and audio on older units. Advanced app mode uses a different cable from pioneer and supports digital video but I believe the audio is still analog.

This leaves the question open that current gen avic might not support lightning.

I have a USASPEC BT35-TOY.

It connects via Bluetooth for music streaming and phone functions. It works great with my 4S. I can't imagine it wouldn't work with a iPhone 5 but I haven't tested it yet. It doesn't involve any cables. Is there anybody that has tried it yet?

How do you like the BlueTooth connectivity as opposed to cabling into the unit? Does it give you any NAV-screen display options?

I just jump in and it connects automatically. You get a voice telling you it's connected. I use the phone for selecting songs or playlists etc.. There are no visuals on the nav screen, but the buttons on the unit and steering wheel are functional. I haven't made a phone call yet and nobody has called me while I was in the vehicle. I don't have any friends. :frown:

Just kidding ;)

I have the Alpine CDE-133BT and my iPhone 5 works fine on BT for streaming music and making phone calls. It also works just fine when plugged in USB to the port on the front of the unit.

Mine works the same as above on BT, just connects automatically.. Funny thing is with my old Android I would have to manually pair it everytime I wanted to use it BT, in this regard I'm really liking the iPhone 5.

I emailed Pioneer to ask if they'd be making a lighting cable so video will stream through my AVH-P4400BH, their response:

"Thank you for contacting us regarding the compatibility of Pioneer products with Apple's new iPhone5 and iOS6 operating system.

We certainly appreciate your concern, and we are in the process of thoroughly evaluating these new interfaces. While we are not able to provide any specific update at this moment, please continue to check our website for the latest information about Apple compatibility with Pioneer products.

Also, if you have not already done so, please register your product at http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/My-Information/Product-Registration
so you can receive any e-mail updates that may be provided to owners of your particular Pioneer model."

So there it is, what little it may be...
