There was a great thread somewhere that had wonderful photos of how to take all the molding off the console to get at the head unit. I searched and can't find it. I thought I had bookmarked it but didn't. Anyone know what thread that was?

Paul

Not sure on the thread, but the whole heater / stereo trim just pulls straight back and pops off.

Antenna cables

I know the one that looks like a mini cigarette lighter plug is the antenna but what is the smaller one on the right for. It was plugged into the back of my '01 stock head unit right next to the FM Antenna but there was no label.

Diversity antenna to improve FM. I did not need it for my new HU. You should be fine without it. What kind of HU are you installing?

Truck has two antennas, the power one in the fender and one in the PS rear glass.

Bingo, the little connector is for the one in the PS rear glass.

It's an alpine iXA-W407. 7" touch screen media center without NAV.

So I am installing a set of Alpine X series reference speakers in the front. They are a component set. I havent bought a 5 channel amp yet so I am just going to use the stock. Does anyone know if the stock amp has a crossover built in to send signal to the tweeters and woofer? There are two sets of wires and I have no idea what order to plug things into my alpine crossover. The alpine crossover has inputs for tweeter and woofer and outputs for tweeter and woofer. My thought was to just run the set going to the stock tweeter to the alpine crossover tweeter input and the stock set going to the woofer to the alpine crossover woofer input and then run the corresponding wires to the speakers.

Thoughts?

Paul

No built in crossover that I am aware of. You will be fine using just the large antenna plug with that HU.

Sorry to hijack, item 20, is it that easy to remove the area around the gear sick?
I miss the two blank switches so I could pull on this and all comes out?

Even with the switches it just pulls up and out. Start at the rear. You'll need to remove the transfer knob to get it completely off.

All done. Head unit in and new Alpine SPX pro reference speakers front and rear. I still have to put in a new amp and sub.
Sounds great but I am looking forward to rewiring the entire system with the new amp.
