Hello, I recently bought a 2004 gx 470. Upon checking the coolant, it has this gray gooey stuff insider the radiator and overflow tank. No engine lights, doesn’t over heat, no smoke from tail pipe. Maybe the previous owner tried to fix a head gasket leak with a liquid head gasket repair kit. The truck only has 121,000 miles. The oil also looks fine. I’m not sure what it could be. Please help me solve this mystery. I flushed the coolant and this is what came out.

The easiest check is to flush it again with water. Just fill with water , bring it up to temperature, shut off the motor and when cool drain it again. If you want to be fanatical do it twice. Then fill it with coolant mix to specs, I like using distilled water instead of hose water, then drive it and see what happens.

If you bought it from a dealer I would be tempted to return the car.

I could just be a bad radiator that someone went the cheapest way to fix. If you don't see any leaks and the timing belt and water pump has not been changed, I would do that service, perhaps with a new radiator just for good measure. Give the problem a chance to show before you decide to put more money in it.

Good luck !

I would suggest using the Toyota Super Long Life Coolant over mixing random stuff, and drain the block too.
