Whats wrong with a simple design? I'd loose the side windows. The lines don't match the front and they look out of place to be honest.
Nothing.

Personal preference.
I think they look better keeping a small window. Personally I think looks more OEM with a window vs blanking it out.

Not my chop, so @SNLC can do it how ever he wants it

My injection pump is next to get back from rebuild. My local for this has been really good. He is a one man shop though with many many pumps to rebuild so a little push helps. I gave him a push yesterday morning and told him a couple weeks would be best. On it he said!

I have got to get the crank in the block and put it on a stand. My block after hot tank is still pretty rusty so I have a lot of prep before painting it. Head being new doesn’t need as much prep but I need to paint it as well.

I am friggin’ excited! It has been 15yrs since I had a sweet diesel like this of my own. I am going camping this weekend (owe it to my dog) but am temped to cancel so I can start in on the FT build. I have another trip planned the following weekend so I think next week after work I will try to get the block/head prepped and painted.

Getting the cab finished is definitely on my mind but harder to fit that into our schedule and actually get it done. See what we can do in the next few months as far as that goes. Once I get the engine built though I am going to be really wanting to push and put this build on the road.

Cheers

I'm a fan of the small windows, too. Remincent of the original mini trucks.

Plastigauged the crank before install to make sure we are good to go on bearings.

Installed rear main seal with a new housing and put it on the stand. It sure is crusty and will take some work to prep for paint. 🤦‍♂️

After hours in the shop, going through my stash. What do I have, what do I need and what is NLA and will be reused. I have done this at least once before but we have pillaged my stash more than once during customer builds.

Have had this awhile, the infamous 80-series FT oil pan. Most of the Euro FT/FTE oil pans we have seen are rotten.

It doesn’t help much but a little visibility out the cab doesn’t hurt either.

We have already looked at and thought about the angles/lines. It’s not done, be patient people! 😆😂

Bummed!

No starter, no vac pump, no power steering pump in my stash. Those are expensive and I still need an A/C compressor and alternator.

I do have brand new +30 injectors, a new timing case and some other goodies but there is plenty more cash to spend to have a finished engine. 😑

I did get the block all tapped up and ready to start rust removal.

New freeze plugs today, I am only short one in my stash. Have to order it to finish the last one. Also changed the fitting out for the heater core line.

If you look at the last pic closely you can see the crap paint Toyota put on the head.

Bummer but expected. It is a little easier to paint the head before install but that just didn’t happen. So I will prep the head on the block, tape it off and paint it.

Got a handful of parts out for coatings, they have gone from being Fast Blast & Coat to being Slow Blast & Coat (company name) this last year. The word is out and he is swamped with work, kinda sucks but whatever I am not in a huge hurry on any of our builds. I can’t finish the engine build though until they finish the coatings plus the injection pump guy. Who is also really slow but good.

Cheers

That seems to be the norm these days, all around the world. If you do good work in any trade you'll get absolutely swamped with orders, and sending a new customer away is always hard.
