After I sold my white HDJ101, I instantly started to miss it. I really wanted to try to get one with a manual transmission, but had a hard time finding one through Japanese auction. I then came across a super clean rig (still auto but with only 91k km), and decided to pull the trigger. However, just next day, I spotted an manual one (same color lol) with high miles (200k miles). After a good inspection, I pulled the trigger and won that as well. Now, in a few months, I’ll be there weirdo with two HDJ101s, with the same color! Here are some photos of the one with 52k miles.

I assume you buying from overseas auctions and having them deliver to US?
I hear you. I had/have 99 LC for more a decade. Then recently had total of 4. Now down to 3. :)

Nice. I think the build quality of the 101's are a bit higher than the 100's and they've usually got a few more features squeezed in.
52k km is crazy though!

Care to share prices and auction sheets? Especially for the manual. I read somewhere there are less than 900 in Japan (all years).

Both auction sheets are below (screen shots). I don’t get the actual paper sheets until the trucks arrive here.

The manual one with 344k km was a R C for due to repairs front left fender. It’s been repainted (7/10 job). I paid $15k shipped.

The auto with 92k km is a 3.5 B. I paid $20k shipped. I meant to say 52k miles (not kms) on the previous post.

I’ll probably end up selling one of them (unless I really like both).

Yep I use a broker to bid on auctions! I’ve done like 10 cars so far.

LSD rear is a nice touch, although after all these years, not sure how effective they are. I also appreciate not having sun roofs for some extra room and no leak.

Is the driver seat/wheel on the right side for those cars?

Will do! At least they are easy to get to and the plates are easily procured.
Source the replacement EGR casting. PN: 17861-17030.

Then you only need to make up a blank for the exhaust manifold. Stud holes are 11mm dia on 64mm centres. Use the pipe as a template to grind down the plate. Re-use the metal gasket with a smear of high-temp sealant or Maniseal.

Then, if the 101 is the same as Aussie 100, you can also ditch the two vac switches forward of the crossover (orange and brown) and tie back the loom. Remove all the now-redundant vac piping and blank off the vac pump nipple.

I ended up paying $21.5k shipped. I only have low quality pictures but I'm pretty certain it has no ahc and unintegrated radio and climate controls plus cloth interior and otherwise mostly clean.

Did you get a third party inspection by chance through your broker or buy it after the translation? Did they give you a booking yet? Curious on current lead times. Thanks!

My broker handled the translation before bidding. Their opinion was this auction house was trustworthy. Apparently some are not so rigorous in their evaluations. I believe it is now on its way across the pacific as of a few days ago. I won the auction end of July. Didn't have a spot on a ship until mid September. My understanding is there is a huge backup at the Panama canal. Current ETA is first week of November. According to the broker shipping has been very inconsistent since early this year.

Also, this guy on Instagram will run the Japanese equivalent of Carfax and translate auction sheets for a fee:

All he needed was the chassis number.

Hey do any of you all have a factory service manual for an hdj101 or know where to find one? I just got one! 116km. So excited. Is there hard copy's in English by chance? Or just transcribed digital? And thank you new to all this. In the past I have restored antique motorcycles and other vehicles. First cruiser!
