Thought I would introduce myself since we just bought a house here in Temecula. We moved here from TN but are originally from the Chicago area. I've been stressed out after paying so much for a house, so to take my mind off if it I washed and waxed the cruiser today. That didn't work so after I got done I took it offroad and got it dirty again. The place we bought is near anza road and butterfield stage rd. Drove up and down some trails and feel a little better now.

So...my cruiser has sprung a leak, oil i think, a few drops underneath the engine in the driveway. Is this a total disaster or was it inevitable with 125,000 miles on it? Sucks that it's staining the concrete though.

I've been to anza, cleveland and big bear so far and have had some fun with the cruiser and hiking with our dogs. Looking forward to a lift, bumper and sliders as well as joining in on a few trail rides.

Some pics from our trip to mexico and anza...

Welcome to the board and SoCal. We are in Corona not to far from you. Yes, house prices suck here. But the weather is great. Where's the oil leaking from? Not that big of a deal with a high mileaged rig. Ours leaks a bit, but never drips on anything.

Welcome to SoCal!

Love the sage 40th edition. Oil leaks are very common on these rigs and nothing to worry about unless it's a lot. Mine has been leaking since I bought it and I am fixing them as I can.

So far I have replaced the valve cover gasket, front crank seal, and the distributor O-ring which all had leaks. Last is the infamous pan arch seal but I'm not touching that until it gets worse.

Some guys have had luck switching to a heavier oil like Rotella 15w-40 to slow or stop the leak.

Mine doesn't leak. :flipoff2:

Knock on wood . . .

Really nice truck - Im also partial to the 40th anniversary sage color. Mine leaks too!
Welcome to SoCAL

Had a leak then switched to mobil 1 syn high mileage and nothing anymore.

Welcome to our humble little area, good to have you. There are some good trails around Anza. I have some buddies out there that all drive Jeeps but know the area well so I am looking to wheel with them anyway. :flipoff2:

Welcome! :flipoff2:

Where in the Chicago area were you? I grew up in Illinios and lived in the Mt. Prospect/Wheeling area for 3 years after college before coming out here 26 years ago.

Gorgeous Truck! Love that color!

My rig was "Oozing, Leaking, Whatever ya wanna call it" when i first got it, also switched to Mobil 1 Syn and no more leaks. Weird, but i aint complaining!

Welcome to the cult, oops, i mean board.

Hit me up if you need any Old Man Emu, or ARB Stuff, i am in San Diego and stock most of it!

Thanks

Thanks for the welcomes and advice, I'm going to try the mobil 1 syn and see it stops the leak.

I had it up on a lift recently while doing a 100 series pad brake job, ended up replacing bearings, races and seals. BUT, darkish oozing shmegma was everywhere so I really couldn't pinpoint where the leak was coming from.

I used to be in the no leak club prior to towing the Uhaul trailer here; maybe trying to maintain 70mph pushed it a little too hard???

Brentbba,
I grew up on the north side in Evanston, lived in the city after I graduated (Bucktown) and ended up moving, after I got married, to a place we made fun of while growing up for being in the middle of nowhere (Naperville), hence the Napertucky.

Man I’m diggin the IH8MUD on the bottom of the pics, makes them look poster worthy.

Slomo,
Let me know next time you go out and I'll be there.

If you have that goo everywhere it could be from changing oil. You know, when you pull the filter it gets on the block and runs down to the axle which mixes with dirt and more goo from the road. My leak was easy to pinpoint, fresh oil leaking from between the tranny and the engine. Possible main seal or pan arch seal IIRC. So unless it is fresh you might just have build up. Also if your breather tube is clogged it could be spitting out of the hose and spraying everywhere. Once again easily identified. Let us know what you find.

Hey Neighbor,

I live out east from you - We are over the hill on the back side of Vail Lake - Sage Area. If you want to off road with some locals, I will shoot you a PM. I few of us in this area have formed a local group.

Tim
