About 2 weeks ago I noticed a little bit of mold forming in my linen close, which is in my bedroom next to my closet. It started at the top of the closet. I totally forgot about it and happened to look up and the mold has really grown and has spreads down the closet walls and also managed to spread into my closet. The mold is getting pretty bad and need to know what to do. A friend told me to try this stuff
Trask Research Mold Remediation and Treatment Products
I started to read about the product and it appears that I still need to cut the drywall out anyway to totally get rid of the mold. I was hoping to either roll the solvent on or even spray it and be done with it.

I pin pointed the problem today. I thought it was the roof but the roofer said it was OK. I went into the attic to find the problem area. I started to pull away the insulation and saw that one of the main trunk lines to the air handler was leaking water. The line was running at a slope and the air handler has a crack in the drip pan. Once I leveled out the trunk line the drip started. The AC guy vacuumed the water out of the pan and blew out the drain pipe.

bleach and some H20 in spray bottle, start scrubbin, oh wear a respirator if you really worried about the mold

Bleach will get rid of the surface mold, but as wet as it is (was) the rock is probably damaged (i.e. soft).
I knew what the leak was when I first saw the post, I see this all the time. See if there is a plumbing vent pipe close to the drain for the A/C. I had about 50 ft. of drain on mine and it clogged regularly.
I drilled a hole in the vent pipe about 4 ft away, and never had a problem since. (16 years)

The pipes were clogged pretty bad.

you're going to have to rip all that out and replace i'm afraid and you need to do it ASAP. Black mold is also called Stachybotrys and depending on exposure can causes chronic coughing, rashes, sneezing, chronic fatigue, headaches, fevers etc. etc.

In severe cases of exposure or cases exacerbated by allergic reaction, symptoms can be extreme including nausea, vomiting, and bleeding in the lungs and nose.

Yeah, I would rip that out as it is more than just surface mold....and put in new stuff. Would consider paying someone unless you are comfortable with respirator...sealing on the work area to limit travel of spores in air to other parts of house and to kids.....and dispose of it properly.

Thanks everyone and thanks Haz for lending me the equipment. A friend and I are going to seal off the room and closet as we work in there and remove the sheetrock. As a matter of fact we are going to remove ALL of the sheetrock that are in both closets and will not repose. This friend of mine is a contractor and the best custom cabinet maker around. He is going to build me 2 custom slide in cabinets that will slide in and that will eliminate the dead space in the closet. If we ever have another issue we will be able to take the unit out and treat agin.

A UC member (CaptJim) is a mold specialist. Might send him a pm and get some pointers.

Thanks Troll. Just got your PM directing me here.

BBQ Boy, I will be happy to help you. Although I am currently in FLA, I am PMing you my cell phone. Call me and I will point you in the right direction and minimize the possibility of making this situation worse. You have a significant amount there.

Jim

Thanks Jim. It was good speaking with you.

Oh and thanks Marshall for sending Jim my way. he's been very helpful.

I think the mold has spread to your 40. The only fix there is to get rid of it too - I'll come by this weekend to pick it up and will only charge gas money. :D

It's for sale so come on by.
