I tryed mean green. they suck!!!! I have a factory but needs to be repaired also. iam thinking of getting the 160amp from powermaster.

Has anyone heard good things about powemaster??

Why does your mean green suck? I have considered getting one. Most people I hear in the landcruiser community that own one like it.

I've heard nothing but great stuff about Mean Green. Their products and their customer service.

Heard good stuff about Powermaster too though, so I'm curious to hear folks impression of a high output FJ62 alt.

Sent from OBAMAPHONE!

I have had many problems with mean green. before install i took it to napa and put it on the bench and it was only putting out 75amps w load. so i returned it back. I would call and call. the wrost service every!! It took forever to get back. so when i got the new one i just put it on i was pissed off.. i tryed to return it but then they also would charge me 35% restocking fee. by this time i was really pissed off. and after all that misson it only lasted about a year.

FWIW my Mean Green alt has been working flawlessly for more than two years so far. So nice to be able to run all my accessories and not have the headlights dim at idle. Sorry about your bad experience with them. They were very nice and helpful to me, but I didn't have any problems either.

Another bad experience with mean green here. It failed under warranty after four months, I called and they were real nice, sure send it back and a new one will be shipped immediately. That was early March and here it is mid-June and at least 10 phone calls later and "so sorry," "it is backordered, "we are so busy," and "I'll make sure it ships" later I still have no alternator. And don't hope to leave a message (consistently full voicemail boxes) or get an email reply--your only hope is to call in the morning and get lucky that they answer the phone. I'm generally patient and understanding (10+ phone calls beginning in mid-April that I actually got through!!!), but it is beyond ridiculous at this point. Based on what I've read here, the product may be good some/most of the time but, good lord, the service is horrible.

To keep this tech, the fusible link fried when the alt died, it probably saved other damage. Or is that insult to injury?

Those kind of amperages are asking a lot of the stock alternator frame. I'm assuming that they are based on the stock alt anyway. The alt just wasn't designed for that kind of heat. It can't get cool enough under high load and then it cooks itself to death. I'll guess that in general those who have had one for a long time don't ask them to produce near max current often or for long periods of time. Those who've had one fail have asked that.

Take a look at the alts that are designed for that kind of output, they're huge! For long term durability swap on an alternator that is designed to produce the amount of amps that you need.

I talked with a guy at powermaster and was told, they do use a stock housing, but use mil spec parts rated at more than 3x temp rating.

I too had my MG fail at the 11 month point. Only took MG 7 months and dozens of calls to get it fixed.

The worse thing about MG is the fact that they lie everytime the move there lips.

For all you MG users(FJ62), I used a 20 mm longer belt and got the alt about 5/8" more clearance from the exhaust manifold. I'm hoping this will help the MG last longer.

Mil-Spec parts huh? Wonder what spec(s) they supposedly meet. Would be interesting to know. Until I see CoC's I'm not buying it.

I'm using a "MR AMP" from performance distributors. I believe it's a 150 amp. It's definitely a larger frame
than stock. I also worry about hi output alternators in small packages....where does the heat go

What motor? I didn't see any Toyota applications on their website.

I put a CS-130 (OE 104A version) on my 22R. It is a precision fab job, but it's not that difficult. Some of the features I made because I could. This is the bracket that I built:

And the beginnings of the tensioner:

I didn't see it either. Man-a-fre carried them for a long time. I would call them because they also make a DUI for the Toyota that has the computer controlled spark curve and that isn't listed either

Summit has it on their website. The pic shows a GM housing but the real housing looks more like the Mr Amps on the DUI site
