Hello everyone

I'm thinking about picking up a 3FE just so that i can rip out all fuel injection pieces and slap them on another flat-domed-piston 2F. (Not as easy as just that, but i'm researching. I'll have to source the 2F also, since I think i've got domed pistons in my 1978) This will also let me change back to stock relatively easily if I don't like.

Figured this would give me something to build over the summer and eventually drop this 2FE into my 1978 FJ-40 in December during winter break from school. I like to plan ahead.

Has anyone in the realm of the CLCC done this conversion before? Thoughts?

I'm gonna pick up the engine this weekend. Anyone have some experience making a cradle for the engine for the back of a pick-up truck? I've got some pallets that ill modify and make a simple frame to keep the sensitive bits uncrushed.

I've never done it to an F but I used a X with straps on a ford 2.0 4 banger
I was looking at doing a 2FE mod at one time but found other things to mod (get mine on the trail)
keep us posted.

Chris

Sam,

A large unmounted tire works as a good engine cradle - just set the oil pan in the hole, I used to make a skid for my parts motors out of old landscaping timbers.

Chris Chapas was a founding member of the CLCC that currently lives in Florida where he owns a really amazing custom and exotic car shop. He JUST finished putting a 3FE in his FJ45. Check out the 45 forum, he has a build up thread posted there. He makes it look easy, but he's a kick ass mechanic who cut his teeth working for Ferrari. Chris and I went to high school together and are old friends.

PM him for info.

hmm...i'm gonna pass on this build for now. I don't have the cash, space, or need for this at the moment. I"ll have to wait until I obtain a garage, or a redneck buddy that doesn't mind more crap in his yard.

Next project will be a desmog and carb tune!

carb tune

Have you seen the carbs for sale by trollhole ? cost less than sending your carb out for rebuild, unlessyou are doing your own in that case never mind.

Yea, I was looking at those Chinese made carbs. I might pick one up just for a spare, then tear into mine. That way I have no down time with the cruiser, cept taking off all the CA smog gear.

My son Ryan bought a Trollhole carb for his 60 and he's very pleased with the performance.

It helps to have a Land Cruiser wizard around the house...

...not MY house....
...unfortunately.

Sam, If you don't plan on keeping it, I could really use all that smog gear for my FJ55. The truck came to me with none and I will need all of it to get it plated here.

I may be able to help you out. Just let me check on emissions laws in other states, b/c ill likely only be in VA for another couple years. The Army will own me soon, and I've got no idea where I'll go next.

In that case you should keep it all, as you will probably need it if you want to register as something other than "Historic" or "Classic Car" wherever you end up. Let me know if you want to get rid of it though.
