I have a 1978 BJ40. I was "rebuilt" here in the Dominican Republic. I am considering taking it statesdie. The problem is, the guy took off the top and added a Jeep rollbar ins tead of the FJ40 one. What are the chances a hardtop will still fit? There are possible mounting holes alongthe top of the windshield but I do not see anything around the door or the back part of the BJ40. Door were cut down so they are half doors. Trying to figure out if it is worth since the thing is a tank and runs perfect. Will try to get some picsi n teh next week or so

The hard top mounts to the windshield frame with 2 holes along the top and a hole and a bracket at each top corner. The top rail of the tub behind the doors should have a row holes with captive nuts in the top edge to bolt the top down to.

If the rollbar does not stick more than a couple inches above the height of the windshield frame it probably won't be a problem, looking at your avatar I would guess it would be OK, but a better picture would help

Or you could get a safe roll bar and ditch the small one that wasn't designed the the heavier BJ40. Jeep beds are tiny comparatively. I don't see why it wouldn't fit inside. Park next to a regular LC w/ roll bar and compare.

The OEM bar is scary thin. Get a nice after market like that offered by Metal Tech, something that will actually do some good if you need it.

what do i need to do to change a softtop to a hardtop beside getting the hardtop 76fj

With enough thought, time, money and effort, anything can be made to fit . Pre-75 had rear doors of a different design.
