I lifted the front tires off the ground and spun only one tire and they both spun.. how do I verify to get the locker unlocked to hear the ratchet sound?

Get the wheels spinning in one direction and then jerk one wheel hard the other way. That should result in an obvious clack-clack-clack sound. If that doesn't work, then try lifting only one wheel up, and then rock it back and forth as hard as possible to get the lock to release.I lifted the front tires off the ground and spun only one tire and they both spun.. how do I verify to get the locker unlocked to hear the ratchet sound?
You can cure it with a selectable <cough> ARB <cough> locker, IMHO a much better solution than Hydro assist which can lead to other problems like bent steering components and mangled steering arms. Based on what I've read here and other places I don't think a stock FJ40 axle is able to take the stress from Hydro assist and/or tires bigger than 37".I'm experiencing the same issue and have attributed it to the locker loading up and preventing the tires from turning at different speeds. I upgraded to a saginaw this past winter and the situation has improved, but is still less than ideal. My theory is that the cure is a hydro assist ram.
Rick, do you have hydro assist?
I do not have hydro assist, and will try all of the above to get to the bottom of it,thanks again for all responses, RickRick, do you have hydro assist?
The lonfields that I put in a few months ago still look great ,,, didnt put but a few miles on in 4wd.Looks like it turned the locker into a spool. That makes turning a lot harder than an autolocker.
how are your birfs looking?
If it's not too late to change the order, you may want to spend the extra $$ for a Powertrax No Slip. It is basically a LockRight with a syncro? mechinism in the center that allows it to lock and unlock easier than a regular LockRight. That's what I switched over to, and I can definitely feel the difference. I am constantly steering around on hard rock, so it's nice to have it release better. Just an option. the four holes that the shear pins go into are oblong, so im going to order a new locker. Should i stick with a lockright or try an aussie??? thanks Rick
did that today, works flawless, I guess next step is to rebuild the boxDid you ever cycle the steering from lock to lock while it was up on stands, expecially with the pitman off? John
