I believe what HF sells is a pipe bender, not a tubing bender. If so, you won't get as tight a bend radius; the die sizes are for pipe, not tubing; and you'll get a lot more "crush" in the radius.
well, my recent experience with their tire changer suggests that the steel they used in that gizmo at least was not very strong. I bent parts on it while still being within the scope of the specs (tires) they listed. Extrapolating to this, I would think it possible that you may not want to operate the bender on the upper range of its listed capabilities.
Conversely, though, if it's like the tire changer, it may be a great deal for light jobs.
the die for the 1 3/4 pipe will just about clear 2" tubeing. it would result in a little bit of elongation, but probably not enought you would notice.
i've been meaning to try it anyway as i have that pipe bender.
and a word on pipe... i have a friend that races dirt track, and he builds all of this full cages with pipe. he's had some freaking nasty crashes (and at high speeds) and ended upside down on more than one occasion. he has only had ONE of his pipes fail and it was on a weld that wasn't done propertly. he has never bent of broken a piece of pipe.
I have one of the HF pipe benders. It's a POS as far as I'm concerned. I guess it'll bend pipe all day as advertised but it doesn't deal well with thin-wall-tubing. I'll second the motion to save up for a regular tubing bender. I wish I had.
someone that has the HF pipe bender told me that it helps to fill the pipe you are bending with sand so the bender will not crush the pipe, are you guys doing that too?
we had four guys go in on a pro tool tubing bender cost each of us only $175. it has seen alot of use since then and it works like a dream. the hf pipe bender is no good for bending tube it kinks and crushes most tube. works well on sched 40 but who wants to build a cage out of that. and the sand trick only works so well and it is a pain to try and fill a pipe up with sand. save your sand cash and buy a good one
