Hand break near my right knee in the dash. Is it possible?

This is more of a question if it's possible. I remember our mid eighties toyo pick up truck had a handle that you would pull straight out from the dash to engage the parking break. Twist to release and it would go back into the bottom of the dash. Straight in, straight out. I want to say its in the general area of where my right knee hits the dash when I drive like an idiot. My reason for asking is to clear up the center console area for a larger ammo-can console. Has anyone had any experience with this type of hand brake in an 80?

sent from space or some crap like that.

BTW, Its brake, not break.

Some Isuzus (4-cylinder Rodeos and PUs, IIRC) have the same type brake handle, in case that's of any help at the pick n pull for parts. You'll also need a longer cable.

My understanding is that these dash hand brake mechanisms were designed for the trucks with bench seats in the front (even if used on many trucks with bucket seats). If any of the 80 series ever had bench seats in front then it is likely that an alternative brake mechanism exists for you from another country. Just a thought.

New manual trans Toyotas still come with them, FYI.

They don't have to be bench seat trucks either.

Wow, good to no (know) not only about the link butt (but) the diagrams give me hope. Thanks guys for the info (information). I'll have to visit the pick n pull if I can ever get away from work.

Standard on all 84-89 Toyota mini trucks and 4Runners. IIRC

Yes, that's how they came on Isuzus. The low-bucks 4-cylinder engine models came with the bench seats.

Not sure about the 80 having bench seats anywhere, but the 70 series sure does and that might be a good place to look in terms of parts diagrams, etc.

Thanks guys. Will report back when I go to my local pick n pull.

They front bench seats do exist for 80 series but not in the us or canada and most are RHD. One would pretty much have to relocate the ebrake to some other location to retrofit a front bench seat. I read some of the lexus models had front bench seats. I rode in a 60/40 front bench fzj80 in OZ. Hell if I remember where the ebrake was. It was a 5 speed, so not super comfy front front middle passenger.

There are in fact LHD 80 series with (split) bench seats. The parking brake remains the same though.

WHAT!? I want a fat guy seat!

If I remember correctly the 4 runner (2wd) that a friend owned had the hand break. I believe it was a mid 90's, and I know it was auto tranny! Good luck!
