Hand brake on 80 series

I am racking my brain over trying to find a solution to my hand brake. It just dowsnt exist. I have adjusted the pads but after a week there is no hand brake again.

I have the drum type on the rear wheels. There are no solutions down under. I saw this picture of a park brake at the back of the transfer case (See attached) and was wondering if someone over there makes these to suit a 95 Cruiser (4.5l auto) and and could send overseas.

Do you have a FF rear axle with disc brakes?
 
Um - year? Country? Solution to.........what? Kinda difficult to help when all you're providing is a need for......what?

Sorry. Its a 1995 4.5l petrol with auto. I am in Australia. The current handbrake is useless and was looking at alternatives when I saw this posted. I was just wondering if something like this is made for 80 series in the USA and if they would post to Australia
 
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the factory handbrake works very well, and it would be way easier and cheaper to fix what you have then to fit a new system. Maybe tell us what you're doing and what you've tried and someone might have a suggestion to help you. If you can't figure it out, take it to a professional- if they charge you to fix it, they're on the hook if it doesn't work. No matter what they charge it will be cheaper than retrofitting a driveline e-brake.

Yep i agree with spike, take it to a good 4wd mechanic and get him to do it, it might cost you a dollar but you wont have the headache. And then if it stuffs up you can take it back. I try and do as much work on my cruiser as I can but sometimes ya just gotta bight the bullet and pay someone to do it, just for the record mine works a treat, good luck.:beer:
 
sounds like a bellcrank problem and possibly some issues with the cabling internal to the drum assembly as well. Just fix it. I replaced all my stuff more than 3 years ago and lubed everything with white lithium and event had any issues since.
 
After 12 months of having a really useless handbrake, I bit the bullet and got it looked at. They replaced the shoes and adjusted it all up and now it works great. They said that the biggest mistake that people make, is that they adjust the cable (at the lever) as opposed to actually adjusting the shoes.

This is exactly right. You need to adjust at the shoes about once every 6 months to keep it working right. When it's adjusted right, it works pretty well.
 
Well, this is the most anal-retentive OCD crowd I've ever seen, adjusting the parking brake as bi-yearly PM makes perfect sense to me!

I don't know, but they do. Probably because I forget to release them once and awhile. This is not a hard chore, just do it and always have a good ebrake.
 
Be aware that turning (machining) the parking drum is a BAD idea, since the new linings will no longer fit the curvature of the drum, and the system will NOT work for sh@t. Been there, done that!

If there is any doubt about the condition of either parking brake drum, replace both rear rotors and install new parts in the parking brake. Don't forget the springs and hold-down pins, which can get bent and corroded.

Adjust, bed them in as per the TSM, and readjust, and they will work great for many years.
