Had a great time today - props to Eric, Garret, Joe, Jon & Brian (+ Clint)
It was definitely warm - but fortunately we had some shade & some fans!

Both rigs look great - Brian has a bunch of pics I'm sure he'll upload later (I think Garret took a fair amt too!)

I don't seem to be missing anything but did inherit Jon's wheel chock & Eric's air splitter.
Come by anytime or give me a buzz and I'll get it to you.

Time for an alignment!

don't have much, got pictures of houses, dogs, the ground, you never quite know what to expect when garrett take the pictures. here are a few.

Nice warm day today, but we had some shade and some fans, to keep it tolerable.

Before stats: Brian's about 35.5" before and 39" after
Jared's stats: 35.75" front and 36.75" before. Sorry can't remember the afters... I think they were about the same 39"

Jared can let everyone know what it came out at.

I put on Ramon's OME 863 heavy's on the rear and the 850J's on the front. No caster nor brake line extensions, yet.

I managed to break 4 bolts (lower driver rear shock mount, upper rear passenger shock bracket, both lower rear sway bar bracket) and Eric managed to fix them...

Here are the before pics, and Eric working...

And Jon and Joe...

Thanks to everyone for helping us out!! Especially to the bolt extraction re-tapping specialist, Eric!

Good times yesterday guys (minus the jackass on I40 who somehow lost a small sailboat off the trailer blocking both lanes of traffic...I didn't get home until 6:45 )!

I enjoyed working on the FJC. Lifting a new/different truck was cool.

I intentionally left the chock for finishing Brian's truck (those bricks made me nervous ). Jared: just hold onto it until our next event. I've got extras and the project 40 isn't rolling anywhere anytime soon!

Both of them look great w/ the new lifts! The FJC was pretty easy overall, you guys had fun with Brian's 80 rear end. Good times overall!

Brian for some reason I thought you were going with a 4" lift hence my comments above about the swaybars coming off. Doh! And you're running 285s? Man I thought you had larger tires!

Guys, how do they ride now?

Sad I missed it... looked like more fun than I was having.

Guess i could post a little update from my episode in the garage this morning.

Put oil cooler back on and decided to get the compression numbers. 1 was 148, 2 was like 113, 3 was like 118. Time to pull head. Pulled it and fun began. One bolt would not come out of head for the life of me. So put some air on it and out if finally came. Now i had already loosened it by hand. Surprise was had, only part of the head bolt came out. Got lucky though, took chisel / hammer to it and then vise grips and out it came. Now to get it to the machine shop.

The trucks look great guys! Wish I could've made it out, but 2 major 4wheeling trips in 3 weeks (GSMTR and the 4Runner Jamboree) mean that I had too much to get done around the house and in the garage to make it out.

I am hoping to turn my GSMTR winnings into a HAMOM of my own in the next couple months. Stay tuned....

Mine runs great! Other than the fact that the steering is super responsive due to the original caster bushings... Didn't know how bad those shocks were until the new ones got put on!

follow up

Here's a better side shot - cell pic.
I guess I need to get some new tires...these seem a bit small! I like the Toyo MTs (285 75 17 aka 34x11.5x17) but they are expensive!! OPEN COUNTRY M/T | Toyo Tires

I want a MT that will be good on road (since most my driving is pavement) - the Toyos seem to be a more aggressive AT than full on MT (suggestions welcome). I also think I'd like to go to a 16" wheel - tires seem a bit cheaper - who knows, pure speculation now!

She's definitely a bit taller! I nailed the parking garage cross bar at Crabtree w the highlift leaving today (I was foolish and thought I'd just waltz in and grab a new iPhone - not so much).
Might have to pull it off being it adds a good 4" to my height.

Install was pretty easy but might have overlooked installing a 5mm spacer in the coilovers - there is a slight lean to the driver's side. (OEM driver coilover is a hair longer than passenger)

For Joe's benefit - don't think it's a quick swap! (full disassemble required)

I'll have to see how it goes in a month or so - if it really bugs me (plus need to remeasure now that I've done alignment etc - think it might be a bit closer than it was)

Truck seems to drive true after alignment - do you think there are long term implications by not installing that spacer and having different coilover lengths?

Looks sweet! Good thing you didn't rip off your rook rack...that would've sucked!

If you are looking for a highway friendly M/T tire then I would stay away from the Toyos. I have been pleased with mine on the trail, they balance great and are nice and smooth on the road...but they are LOUD. I can hardly carry one a phone conversation in the 80 while on the highway without the other person commenting on the noise.

For years, I ran a Mickey Thompson Baja Radial on my truck and really liked them. I never did any real offroading with those (back in the day it was mostly mud). I will say they were far better self cleaning than the BF KO's, but didn't ride "quite" as nice. However, I went from a worn out set of Mickey's to the brand new KO's, that perception may have been skewed. I think I got like 45k out of the Mickey's and I was horrible about rotating, balancing, and alignment - after all, I was surviving off of Top Ramen and Totinos pizzas back then. I really love the KO's, but this red clay mud cakes them immediately and renders them useless really quickly. I have heard REALLY good thinks about the new BFG M/T KM2's for both offroad and onroad manners - might want to ask around the FJC forum to see what others think as I am sure there are a host of folks running them.

I'm pleased with my Firestone Destination M/T's, but they are getting a little loud. Seem to be wearing pretty nice...

You're not going to find a good MT that isn't a little loud on the highway.

The firestones, in reports do seem to be the quietest and wear the best.
