Hello,

N7RYP (no code Tech) here. Once the 40 is finished it will have 2m, 70cm, FMRS, GMRS, 10m (As of Feb 23rd 2007) & 11m. I can crossband repeat with the 2m/70cm rig with my dual band handheld.

Looking for information on the best way to go for GPS. Dedicated gps, or carputer.

Thanks,

Julet-Echo-Foxtrot-Foxtrot :grinpimp:

Hello all... my 1st post, what a great forum - glad to be a new member. i'll fill out my equipment list later

KE6HRR, "legacy" Tech+ operating occasionally within my band limits

1st unit was a shiny new Kenwood TH-78A HT, wish I could find a new battery. thing was great until the screen started shrinking (or is it my aging vision)

Yausu FT736R base driving a 50' diamond tri-band. even got FSTV to work, but there's no stations around me for that mode

put an IC-7000 in my -100 last year, hooked it up to an AH-4 tuner behind an AH-2b whip. more bands than i can play with, so i'm working up thru general training. sure will miss that 12wpm exam!

I'll read up on other IH8MUDrs around Sacramento - perhaps we'll connect

Phil,

Welcome on board.
Nice to have you here.

Alvaro

Thanks Alvaro - although ive been up here in the sheldon area for ~11 years, havent really worked the nets. do you?

Well, it was suggested I post that my ***7yr*** old son (and my wife) just went for their tech class yesterday and both passed - 100%.

There really is NO good reason to not go for at least a tech class Ham license right now, it really is pretty easy and the capabilities and quality are just so far beyond the FRS/CB stuff.

Funny, I just checked and Feb 17 is when I went with my 9yr old for our tech class and both passed, exactly 1 month before.

I went for the general class yesterday (might as well do something while waiting for my 7yr old & wife), passed.

cheers,
george.

Congratulations to the whole fam damly! :bounce:

Thanks! The key point though, is that if my 9yr old and now my 7yr old can sit and pass with flying colours, then any folk on this site smart enough to own a toyota 4wd should be smart enough to pass the test :)

Of course my two kids are now planning their general upgrade...

cheers,
george.

Not to be out done by George's kids (although they likely have a genetic advantage over me - due to the handbrake of course).

New Technician granted yesterday!

KI6IPN

Yaesu 2800M, mounted overhead above the mirror in the FJ60.
Radial/Larsen multiband antenna mounted in the middle of the roof.

Congrats Jim!!

Of course your 80 will be bugging you for its own radio too :)

cheers,
george.

KB1OSF checking in.

Passed my Tech on 3/14/07, finally showed up on the list the other day. Playing with my new Yaesu FT-8800R, not sure how I'm gonna mount it up yet. I have a Larson NMO2/70 on the roof with a magmount for now, will convert it to a permanent mount soon.

Good news for me: there's a Ham Radio Outlet store 4 blocks from my house. But so far it's been bad news for my credit card. ;)

I'm surprised I hadn't posted up here yet.

KC0ZAB. Part of the Rising Sun gang that got their Technician ratings last fall. I've got a VX-7R HT and a FT-8800R mobile and a Comet antenna I need to install in my 80. Been having fun with this. I built a j-pole antenna last week that greatly improved my HT's performance from the house. Been studying for General and plan to take the test April 7.

9K2LC

just got licensed here for HF, UHF & VHF

IC-V8000 in the 100 for now, hoping to order and install an IC-7000 soon

KB3GUN (no, it's not a vanity).
Hello OM,
Got my Tech in 2001, General in 2002. I do some phone on HF but more CW as of late. Lots of 2m-440 rigs in the house and in the vehicle.
Have a 360ft loop for most of my HF work and a tarheel for the FJC. I think an HF Cruiser Net would be cool.
Also run an echolink node (#23115 kb3gun-L) linked to a local repeater (WR3AJL 146.625- Pl 123.0) located near Somerset PA.
73!

Icom dual bander that I carry with me all the time...Too many different vehicles... Lots of antennas tho.

78 FJ40 in pieces, done by labor day... I hope...
01 Xterra 200,000+ miles, never a problem...
Saab.. no, we don't want to talk about that car!

VA7CFW from Canada of course with HF and VHF privileges (Canadian Basic+). I have an Icom 706 in the BJ60.

Mitch W4OA here...

Mitch here, W4OA, ham for over 40 yrs., owner of the oldest name in ham radio, The Vibroplex Co., Inc. www.vibroplex.com, and '96 FJZ80/locked, '96 LX-450/locked, '99 LX-470, 2001 Tundra.

Mitch-Very cool website. I don't have a need for CW, but the fact that you own that name and that company is really interesting. Great looking traditional stuff.
