Do they have any specs withteh manual? I looked around a LITTLE bit on the web and didn't find much.
It would be nice t have as a loaner (with me as control operator for the sticklers) on a wheeling trip for a non-ham.....
Just took a closer look at the small Cd in the package and realized its broken. Anybody know where I can download the contents?
You guys still having luck with these? My original plan was to mount a HAM radio in the Cruiser but most the guys I will be wheeling with use CB. So now I am leaning towards installing a CB in the Cruiser and then keeping a handheld HAM for the more serious stuff.
I still may pick up a good handheld (Yaesu dual band) but love the idea of something that works at this price!
That software is not worth seeking out. Go download CHIRP and have fun programming your new radio. I didn't even bother installing the Baofeng software, I've heard it sucks.
Get the latest daily build, it'll have support for your UV-5R and works perfectly:

Yes, it still works perfectly! I've been using it for the past couple of days here at Cruiser Moab and it has yet to let me down, even after a couple of decent-height drops.
I've got one for sale if you'd like it. I mistakenly bought two. PM me if you're interested, I'll give you a good deal![]()
I'll take it if he does not want it.

That statement is pretty broad, there are many places where you can be out of range of a repeater with only 5W to work with.GLTHFJ60 has it right. If you are using a ham radio, get your license. Small investment in time and it opens up a whole new world. The best thing about 2m/70cm is that you are really never or of range of a repeater which gives you huge range even on 5 Watts. That makers them truly better than anything else.
I don't think it's any secret that these radios are made in China. For that price, would not be surprised if has a red flag and stars standing behind its maker.
I like the idea of cheap but, in kit form. No, they do not look fancy but that is the idea of keeping the price low. This one however, looks nice. Now, what is the standby battery times on this little guy.
Dude, really? It's a $65 HT DUAL band radio. It ships complete with the exception of a programming cable. It includes a wall wart charger, belt clip, lanyard, rubber duck antenna, LiIon battery. What else would you like for $65.
