I understand. I'll just say that for a ham radio it works EXTREMELY well with my FRS/GMRS radios ;)

Ok, very interesting operational compliance :)

Certainly not a "feature" I've seen advertised and likely for a good reason...

cheers,
george.

Just got mine today:bounce: Now I just need to figure out how to use it:lol:

It would be nice if they manufactured a dash "dock" for it that would keep it securely in place, had power provisions, and a couple options for speaker and mic.

Cheap... works. Personally wouldn't expect a whole lot accessories, but probably fab/make-shift something....

again cheap decent radio for the price point.

By the time you buy all that you might as well get this instead

YAESU FT-2900R - RADIOS>RADIO TRANSCEIVERS>MOBILE RADIOS>2M RADIOS

Not horribly mobile :flipoff2::hillbilly:
Except I purchased two UV-5Rs for the price of one of those.

Exactly.

What I was saying was that by the time you bought the radio, a mount, dc adapter, speaker, mic and an external antenna. You might as well buy a mobile with 75W of output.

But you get 75W and it cost less than adapting the HT to a mobile unit.

My point is it's not really practical to adapt a cheap HT for mobile operation. Even my VX-7R doesn't really work that well as a mobile and I have all the stuff you need, speaker mic, mag mount antenna dc adapter. (I stopped short of a RAM mount. :grinpimp:) I have way more invested in the set up than a low end dual channel mobile unit cost.

I misunderstood the context then, and I agree with you. It would not make sense to buy all the accessories when the transmitting capabilities are limited in comparison to a mounted mobile unit.

Dude, really? It's a $65 HT DUAL band radio. It ships complete with the exception of a programming cable. It includes a wall wart charger, belt clip, lanyard, rubber duck antenna, LiIon battery. What else would you like for $65.

Yup, I have a little 3R...great little radio for the money. I hook it up to a Slim Jim 2m antenna in my truck and it reaches out a respectable distance...I get good signal reports too. Hard to beat for the $...I need to see what the 5R adds as extras...

Now they need to start making 75 Watt portable units and I'll be a happy man..

Actually, how well would two of these work for chatting back and forth while hunting? I assume a heck of a lot better than the $100 radio's they have at Bass pro..

They'd work really well! However, to transmit on the 2M or 70cm bands, by law you have to have your HAM license, not that anyone would check, but it must be said.

Since the tech lic is so easy to get that shouldn't be a barrier to anyone.

I would think they would beat the $hit out of the Bass Pro radios.

I am constantly amazed at how poorly those radio's work..

25 miles? Even in perfect line of sight, Bull****.. 2 miles line of sight and they start to fail.

Nevada does not even have any trees..
