Ham/CB Radio Install Pics

Hey All,

I tried doing a couple of searches and didn't find much, hence the new thread. Contemplating adding a ham radio to the rig and am looking for suggestions for where to mount it. Where are folks on Mud mounting theirs?

For my choices, I'd prefer it to be
1. Out of sight as much as possible (removable faceplate comes in handy here)
2. Completely reversible (again, as much as possible). If I need to sacrifice a cheap interior bit that's abundant around, so be it.

One last thing - I have a car phone in my '97. I'd really hate to part with it for nostalgia purposes but think it may be a good place to come up with a mount. Plus, passenger leg room is overrated.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where are you guys (and girls) mounting yours?

Search function is very spotty at best today.

There are plenty of threads on this topic. What radio do you have. Single/Double DIN?
Do you need the ashtray?
Many people opted for the single DIN radio and placed a CB radio in the space below.
Others used the ashtray space for the little Uniden 510/520.

HAM radio, I've seen it by the e-brake, under the seat with a face plate in front of the shifter.

I am also trying to search for something I know for sure it's been disced before, but I get no results from search today.

With Ham you are best to get a unit with a remote mount control/faceplate. It really won't be removable as car stereos are with a push of a button. With remote mounts the control unit will be only one small cable attached which makes it easy to find multiple locations to mount by using heavy duty velcro. The main unit then can be placed almost anywhere out of sight with no spaces issues with power, multiple coax cables and connectors. I personally see no reason for a CB and only the very expensive units have remote mount capability.

Well here is mine from today. Not a remote mount, but I have zero problems putting holes in the dash. I some folks would wince at the thought.

1/4 wave antenna for town and heavy trees / mountains. I have a 5/8 for flat land.

Sounds great and wasn't using that space on the dash for anything else.

Realized that last picture is before I mounted the unit. Anyway it works great.

Punched 2 small holes in firewall grommet. Fed wires with coathanger up by tiny space between dash and window by the A-pillar.
