Need a Tech Day at Convenience to install my lift on the 4Runner, preferably August or Sept.

Also planning on opening and inspecting the 4 speed tranny/3 speed transfer I just picked up from Gary. Anyone who knows what they are doing want to show me what to look for, what measurements to make, what wear points to check? What minimal kit items do I need assuming no bearings need to be replaced (seals, etc.). Not wanting to buy a $200 rebuild kit if I don't have to.

At some point I need to rebuild my transfer case. I think that Sam does as well, and I it would make for a good HAM day. If anyone is interested, we would need to flesh out the details, but I can certainly provide some tasty suds. I'm pretty sure I have a grill around here too :)

so looks like we have some good candidates to warrant a tech day at Convenience, or other place with a lift and press.
perhaps sometime in September on a Saturday unless you have to do it now.

a transfer case rebuilt and maybe fuel pump
front end rebuild-
4-runner lift install
possible radiator install

Jon, have you a driveway, tall jackstands, regular jackstands, and a jack?

I've done probably 6 or so lift installs in parking lots and driveways over the years (although never did coil springs...). A lift is nice, but not necessary to install a lift kit.

Dan -

Thanks for the encouragement. I've done a leaf spring lift by myself but not had any experience with coils. I have been tempted to just do it at home, but unfortunately the only level space to work is in the carport. My focus of late has been to get the 40 ready to start putting back together so the rolling chassis occupies that valuable piece of real estate at the moment. I'm taking advantage of the easy access to the frame to clean it up and put on some fresh paint so the 4Runner lift will have to wait a few more weekends.

Jon

go to your local grocery store parking lot.:)
I'm sure they won't mind.

Chris

If I tried that in McLean I'd probably get arrested. Too many hoity-toity citizens in this neck of the woods.

I have a lowrise lift in my garage. There is limited clearance to the garage door opener when lifting the cruiser up but she gets off the ground. Im offering if someone needs it for work instead of going to a shop for the "tech day".

Just a thought

Looks like we're going to hold off until it gets a bit colder to schedule a day at convenience auto in manassas.

Since this is also a HAM thread, is anyone besides Bart, Ed, and myself interested in Ham/Amateur radio?

I would be interested. Though I'm with Jon as I think my fire will hold no more irons.

On another note, and speaking of HAM days, I'm helping John Hall install a radiator and water pump on Saturday the 11th. If anyone would like to drop on by, please do so! We'll be doing it in the driveway of my townhouse in Bristow.

As always, If I can make it, I'll film it so we can share it with others who aren't around. My schedule is pretty full through the sept 18th...

Dave
