Gentlemen,

So, I finally pulled the trigger and have a new H55F on its way to Fred Anderson. Couldn't help myself.

Anyway, I need to swap the existing input shaft with the correct shaft for the 1HZ.

Anybody here rebuilt an H55? Looking thru the FSM, it looks like you can just pull the bearing retainer and seal, the shaft. Pull and re-press the bearing, swap over the needle bearings over to the new shaft and put it all back on the way it came off.

Looks simple, but some times it looks simpler than it really is:grinpimp:

Any input would be groovy

Congrats!

Sorry, I've no real experience, although, your plan is what I recall reading in the past while doing research on the H55.

Hope others can chime in and offer guidance and I hope it really is that simple...

I'm stoked;)

Yeah, the FSM paints it as pretty simple. I just don't know if it'll do anything to the thrust clearance. One can hope.:meh:

Once I get that set, then I can put the new T-case together.

As far as i remember from years ago it was that easy.

There is a trick to the needle bearings. Thick grease is your good friend.

Hardest part is pulling the one bearing properly.

Yeah, the needle bearings look fun.

I got a new main bearing so I dont have to mess with pulling the existing bearing. Press in the new one, snap ring and presto!

I'll have a spare H55 in a month or so in anybody needs one.:grinpimp:

And seriously, put some grease inside where the needle bearings will be, then put in the needle bearings. The grease will hold them in there for installation.

Funny, that's exactly what the FSM says ;)

I have been doing that trick since the late 70's when i was growing up building transmissions with my neighbor. Guess he was a good teacher eh.

Once I get it dropped and pop the top do I can take a look, I'll let you all know;)
