Ok, I'm think I just about read 90% of all threads starting with 5 speed and H55F.

My remaining questions are, for my June 1984 FJ60:
Do I have to modify the tranny mount?
Can I use my existing transfer case?

I'm aware of the drive shaft mods, and the tap and plugg of one of the holes in the transfer case.

You can reuse the tranny cross member and t-case. You may not have to tap and plug the hole in the intermediate plate, mine did not have the hole, you'll see when you get into it. Don't forget the 5 gear oiler nipple and if you can find a front DS from a post '84 60 you won't have to lengthen your. Good luck and enjoy that 5th gear!

So does the tranny cross member get relocated? If so, is that a unbolt and move? Or cut off, move and weld?

H55 in an 84FJ60

I am no expert at all just have been looking long and hard at doing the same thing on my 85 FJ-60. And from 4 85 on the switch is suppose to be a simple bolt in operation. From the threads and talk in person and Pm to others who have done the conversion on pre 85;s the driveshafts have to be modified. The crossmember has to be modified if you add an additional box ie doubler or toy box. As I say this is what I have gathered from the info on mud and others I do not guarantee it to be correct. Good luck with your change and post up what the final outcome becomes. :bounce::cheers:

Right on, the drive shafts are no big deal I'm would love upgrade to some JE REELs when I get around to do this mod. I was concerned that tranny mounts had to be relocated. I'm not adding anything to the transfer case (toy box etc), so it looks like I'm fine.

I do have a shackel reversal, I wonder if that driveline angle might have to be addressed, I think I can across some comments regarding that....hmmm?
