I think you def. have a problem if it's still grinding. The vibrations don't sound good either. Curious to see what you end up finding.

Y'all knocking back a 14 pack before noon?:p

10-4 Chris.. My sister and i are going to try and knock out a 14er in the morning, but i'll be there around noon I am guessing. I also am picking up a driveshaft from manjerk so I gotta be there.

You're a better man than I, I'm satisfied to gaze at the 14er's. Nice to know Mark's going to be there, he's got some parts for me too.

yeah, I was stoked that he said he'd be there, I wasn't looking forward to having the parts shipped or organizing a hitched ride for them. Guess that's what the rally's for!

I wish they came in packs of 14.. .12 is not enough sometimes!!

the truck does not look like my avitar anymore... black bumpers, sliders, tinted windows, black wheels and 35's. I'll more than likely have the dog (tan great dane) with me too. I think we should not have a problem bumping into one another :)

Do you mean that there should be a spacer in front against 5th gear? Is this the spacer you're talking about Grant5127?

no.... spacer #22 and bearing#24...... 5th has nothing to do with 1 through 4 shifting......

Talked to tht folks at cruiserparts.net and they are willing to replace the tranny under warranty... man, I am really happy with their customer service. Impressive :)

Now i need to figure out if that is the bet route. James suggested that the shift forks may be out of alignment... and i don't know if mine has th ebearing issue.. i guess that requires a dissasembly..

will keep everybody up to date.

I don't buy the shift fork scenario.....problem is elsewhere, but it's only right for them to replace the trans being its defective.......

if i can just jump in and ask a Q about my 5speed

when the gearbox is cold it will shif fine but once your be driving it a bit and the box marms up it is hard to shif from 1st to 2nd with out grindingand if your coming down the gears don't even think about 2nd as by the time you get it in gear to 2nd it is to slow you may as well go back to 1st

Nice meeting you today Marco! Sorry I couldn't shed any light on the H55F question. For others - ours shift the same so it appears to be a matter of individual perception or comparison to other tranny's.

(BTW Marco, I can't believe I wasn't looking forward to the Pinks Shoot Out at Bandamere, what a blast! Great time, I need to listen to my son more often! )

grant,

Can you see the bearing/spacer in question if you lift the top plate?

I've got my H55 ready to go, and if I can check it before install, it might save a huge hassle removing it - should there be problems.

Maybe a pic of the Good vs. Wrong bearing, if you have one ??

Thanks much,

S. :)

I've come across 2 55s over the last couple of years that have had the wrong (different style) main output shaft bearing installed from the factory......... the bearing should be a caged ball style with a spacer in front against 1st gear.....the incorrect bearings have been a staight roller with removable center race with a thicker flange on one side that goes against 1st gear..... well the straight roller has no way of keeping itself centered thus allowing excessive front to rear movement of main shaft and that effects mesh on all components in question..... contact your dealer and they will give you a replacement if it was in fact a new trans to start with.........

Nice meeting you too Chris, thanks for letting me trade trucks for a bit. I really don't knwo what I'm going to do next, but I know I don't like the way this thing shifts and it does vibrate quite a bit as well at higher RPMs in 2nd and 3rd.

I've got a call in to Cruiserparts to chat with them/James about it. we'll see what he says. I don't want to go through the trouble of replacing it if it is something that can be adjusted.

Bigluxs... I don't know what to tell ya...
