Hi, i would like to rebuild my gearbox, because Synchro 3 to 4 is a bit crunchy, my question is , i am quite handy but never done a gearbox , any suggestions on H55F rebuild, thanks

You need some good pullers to seperate the parts and micrometers for measuring the float.
You wiill need to inspect the shift forks for wear and factor in a new clutch kit and having the flywheel machined.
You will also be doing the transfer case
Next time I need a gearbox rebuillt I will use a Mcnamara gear on the output shaft.

Thanks , it looks all very difficult, what you think ? JUST DO IT:meh:. Oh by the way rosco, i finally found 2 used rear window seals here in belgium for 50 euro for the 2.It was a hard search ,but it paid off

The hardest part of the rebuild is pulling the bearings out to lower the cluster shaft. Your puller will need specific thin/narrow legs to get in there. Nothing that you couldn't fabricate but mine were so tight, they had to be oxy cut out. All in all not a very hard job, i say give it a go. Get yourself a good manual (preferably toyota fsm) and measure everything. Photos may also come in handy.

Ps. Cluster shaft bearings have to be removed and the shaft sitting in the bottom of the box before you can remove the main shaft. Also check the cluster shaft bearing journals for wear as this is a known failure point if you do a lot of heavy towing.

Have just finished rebuilding my gearbox and t/c ,it take some time ttho do it .
very important to work very clean, wash it very good with degreaser before you open any thing. take a lot of photos as there are some parts that can go both ways with a very small different.
one of the problems is to know what shims size you will need, as nothing is availble over here i just orderd all the different size ...take your time making a good puler, there is a good thred about home made pulers here on MUD.
replace ALL the bearings and seals, i think its better doing it only one time than savings few bucks.
replace the bushing on the handle.
there is al little plastic oiler between the t/c and the gearbox that oil the 5th gear,VERY important to put it back. it's Hard to see on the FSM where its located.

OK, i will give it a go, i will need to find a good manual ?i think it will be a nice challenge and good learning proces:bang:. I look for the thred on those pullers. Thanks guys and i hope i can count on you guys if a have any questions?
