lost of posts on high mileage H55 5 speeds slipping out of 5th gear when they are "worn out"...what exactly wears out? can it be replaced/repaired?

i thought i read a post somewhere that whatever part is the problem that it could be heated and bent inwards so this doesnt happen? I am about to get my H55F rebuilt and would like to know prior to

Calling Poser...he will know : )

okay, the problem is the splines on the output shaft and the 5th gear hub engage about 3/16" (poor engineering from factory) and all this stress eventually wears the splines to the point that they do not hold any longer. you can buy a new hub or you can heat the fork and bend it towards the tranny 1/4"...

this has worked for me...

Crushers, appreciate it! Do you know how much this hub would cost new? I am getting ready to rebuild my H55F.

talk to Dan at 4wheelauto.com he sells them new...
BUT you still need to make sure the hub is seating properly...
