I've had my '08 for a year now and really want to update all of the 15 year old speakers. It is a Mark Levinson with the amp under the driver. I really don't want to change anything except replace the old speakers.

So far, I pulled 2 examples. The rear cargo door has what I measure as 3.0 inches, 2-way, 8 ohm, while Crutchfield says 2.558 inches. I can't find a 3 incher - everything seems to be 3.5. The other speaker I pulled was from a rear door that sounded blown. I measure it as 6.0 inches, 2-way, 16 ohm. It is a problem child, so the ohms may not be right. I can't find a 16 ohm speaker replacement, and the most popular cousin seems to be 6.5 inches. My frustration is that if I have to select a speaker that is larger than OEM for any speaker, Crutchfield says to make up my own mounts and use hot glue. I'd rather do something better than that.

Anyone with some experience and advice?

I replaced some speakers a year or so ago, they needed to be 8 ohm or something. Crutchfield didn’t have any, the brand I got was ds18. I may have had to buy some of the mount adapters too(metra brand?). Can’t say I noticed a big difference, I’ve read that the reforming referenced above is the best way unless you pull and replace all components.

Interesting thoughts. The 3 speakers I have extracted look like they all have good surrounds (foam). I was going to pull the other backseat door speaker to see if that one also is 16 ohm, which I have re-tested a few times to confirm 16 ohm. Maybe my speakers are in fact in good condition, if I can figure out why the one intermittently sounds blown. Since I did not expect 16 ohm, I'd also like to determine ohms of the front door speakers.

I am not an electrical guy, but I am fairly certain the speakers are 8 ohms. There is a thread from club Lexus about speaker replacement which might help, or even search this forum, I know there are plenty of threads on speakers.
Good luck!

I agree with this comment and maybe someone replaced the speaker you have that shows 16ohm just because it fit?

As for your tweeters on the back door, or any tweeters really, the sizing isn't super important. just match the ohm rating and ask Crutchifeld to sell you their little metal strap mounting thing. It's a flexible skinny piece of metal with holes so you can mount your speaker to the strap, and then bend the strap accordingly to match your mounts.

I'm still in the " get my speakers to work" phase but I've got a repaired radio in route. Once it gets back in I may be diving in to these speakers as well.
