I bought my 2006 470 at the beginning of February and have loved the ML speakers. The previous owner replaced the head unit with a GROM Vline to get Apple CarPlay, which has been pleasant. However, recently, the rear right speaker below the glass window has blown, and I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking about just doing a stock ML replacement, but after reading some threads here, I can't tell whether I should go for sub replacements in the back with some aftermarket like Dayton 6.5" or Visaton or just go for a stock replacement. Another thing I was interested in was when I replace the speaker it would be beneficial to try and upgrade the ML amp as it is almost 20 years old or just stick with it and do speakers as necessary.

My amp stoped working so i had it repaired. I also repaired the surounds on the door woofers. The rear speaker that you say is blown is more mid and high, if you replace be sure to use the same impedence.

I ended up replacing my amp with a furbished factory amp when mine died. And I bought some used but still in good condition speakers for the doors because finding the correct impedance and form factor was next to impossible for me. If you do replace the rear sub, I would consider getting a separate amp for it. Best of luck with whichever direction you decide on going👍

I replaced the front door woofers with these, and was surprised at the sound quality.
There is a YouTube video showing the install, just need to trim the plastic bracket slightly. They can be configured for 4 or 8 ohm, just need to use the jumper wire to set it up as 8 to match the ML amp. I think the same company offers a rear door mid bass speaker
