The non-nav conversion adventure continues...

Vehicle is a 2005 w/nav. I've completed the non-nav conversion and it works great.

I'm trying to install a new head unit from Crutchfield with the TYTO-01 adapter. I cannot get sound out of the speakers. For some reason the amp is not turning on. I've been on the phone with Crutchfield for hours and they don't have an answer. I've gone over the wiring instructions multiple times.

Everything works with the OEM head unit. I set the volume, fade, and balance before disconnecting.

I know the head unit is working and putting out signal on the speaker wires. I have constant and accessory power going to the amp. All the fuses are good.

I've seen other posts where people use regular aftermarket headhunts (i.e. not Teyes or Android) with the stock ML amp.

Is there a step I'm missing to get the amp to trigger?

Thanks.

Solved my own problem...ordered another TYTO-01 of Amazon, replaced the one from Crutchfield, et voila, sound!
There is a data signal that the TYTO generates to turn on the amp, per Crutchfield. I guess that was the one thing not working on my original part. I don't know of any way to test it, and Crutchfield did not either.
So for the record, you can install an aftermarket head unit (Sony, Boss, Jensen, etc) into a nav-equipped truck, but you must do the non-nav conversion and use a WORKING TYTO-O1 adapter.

the Metra 95-8166g is our only non-custom trim option correct? I've searched a few ways, and that is the only one I see.

The Metra part I asked about is a really good match for the trim in my GX, so if there are other colors available, it's a moot point for me.

Did you use the Metra (Axxess) steering control adapter too?
Where did you stuff the 2 metra boxes? I just crammed them down into the gap between that lower trim face and what I think is hvac duct

I'm having to backtrack a bit as when I got my harness all taped and secured (thinking I was done) my non-nav controls wouldn't fit (I guess I taped something too well).

When you were doing the wires for the non-nav climate, did you find that a group of them turns and heads towards the windshield at about 1/3 across the glove box? This wiring project has been one of the most annoying vehicle projects I've got myself into.

I'm glad others have had success as it's keeping me going. I think If I were patient zero for this adventure, I'd set fire to the GX in a gravel pit someplace.
