Ticked the San Juan Mountains off the bucket list last week. Dispersed camped one night and motel in Ouray two nights.
Colorado is absolutely magnificent; the history of the mining towns, beauty of the alpine lakes, variety of terrain and overall change of pace compared to more Westerly states.
The little GX460-that-could continued to hold
up well with 2” lift and 31”s.
She completed the following without a hitch (except one extremely two wheel tippy-one foot from the edge of a sheer drop off spot on Mineral Creek, which is Red rated);
- Last Dollar Rd
- Red Mtn Mining Trail
- Porphry Gulch
- Ophir Pass
- Alpine Loop of Engineer + Cinnamon Pass
- Mineral Creek
Black Bear was closed, and I’m probably lucky for it!
Being SoCal based, wheeling at 12k+ elevation was a new experience. Power/torque drain is a thing. Cannot wait to go back.
