Agreed, I won't fault or criticize anyone for buying and driving what they like regardless of how they use it (or don't), it's just wasted potential when they're not taken off-road
I have a buddy with a 1st gen F150 Raptor and I try and make fun of him at least once a week for never going off roading with us. Different strokes lol.

I was just talking about Broncos with my Jeep buddy. Neither of us has ever seen one on the trails. Not even Raptor specific, the Broncos around here all seem to be pavement queens. There's no shortage of top-dollar rides getting abused, I've seen G-Wagons and Land Rovers at the OHV area, but never the Ford. I was interested in these before they came out, and even considered waiting for them instead of buying my beloved GX. I'm really curious why nobody seems to be using them as designed, since they do seem pretty capable in theory. They were billed as a competitor to the Wrangler, but honestly they seem to be used more like a Toyota Sienna or Dodge Caravan IRL.

I've wheeled with one, it did well, only held back by the trailing arms. I would still consider one as a replacement for the GX if I sold it and magically had more money lol

I mean, aren't there plenty of Wranglers that never touch dirt, either?

I think it's something like 10% of Wranglers will see off-road use in their lifetime (which is actually pretty strong)
Does the dirt and mud in the gutters after a rain count as off road use?

The current president of our 4x4 club, a Jeep guy, traded his Jeep and just bought one of those Bronco Raptors last year. The very first run we all did as a club, he wouldn't take it on anything other than the fire road trail we were on. Albeit, he'd only had it a couple days back then.
We were all ribbing him about it too.

Having like 14 inches of suspension travel and 37s from the factory is just so silly. But if you don't have access to somewhere that you can absolutely send it off road then what's the point? It's like buying a GT3 RS just to do highway pulls and argue with Tesla drivers on the internet.

(I am aware that the disappointing majority of performance vehicle buyers will never use their performance vehicle anywhere close to its maximum performance in a proper environment)
Yea, this is like the white collar folks who cos-played Harley riders in the 90s and 00s.

They definitely couldn't Scandinavian Flick their truck through a hair pin. Granted the GX(me) is awful at it. I usually induce drifting through lift off over steering with the center diff locked to add some training wheels.

Our president has a Cayenne and has taken it on a few runs, but nothing more than a 1. Switzerland Trail and a run we did through the pawnee. Its still bone stock. Its little wheels and tires were moving so fast with all that washboard. Oofta.. 😂

The GX wants to rotate but the Lexus lawyers don't want you to have any fun.

Yea, I am minutes from the Pawnee Grassland and like sliding around those roads.

I still occasionally think about what it would take to do a selectable 4WD transfer case on the 460. On the 4th gen V8 4Runners (and 470s if I'm not mistaken) you can swap in an FJ TC box and voila, 2WD/4WD...

Wouldn't be a huge deal, just have to adapt for shifting control or make a hole for the shifter

Its not. Unless i am missing something. I have been researching it to add a second reduction section.
I would personally try to figure out how to add sticks for shifting.

Right, but the 470, FJ, and 4th gen 4R are all kind of the same. The 460 only really has the 5th gen 4R counterpart, and even though there's literally hundreds of thousands of them, I've never seen a 5th gen 4R TC-- electronically controlled or even with the manual stick-- swapped into a GX. Unless somehow an FJ box can be swapped in?

Should, there are J150 Fj cruisers, you can put a taco box with a 460. Might have to mess with input shafts.

There is a toyota transfer case that has 2wd and full time 4wd that would be perfect.
