Most people put crossbars, then a rack...on top of those, before realizing they are quickly out of room or over capacity. I went with a Gamiviti because I prefer a welded solution, lots use Prinsu or SSO.
Me too! But back in the day they were called "surf racks"! Aside from surfboards, they worked great for lumber from the local hardware store too.I've had roof racks since before the term SUV was a thing and had to make our own.

On the bright side, maybe you can up grade to a steel bumper or something? I'm sure they should be cheaper than rebuilding the front end, if so the insurance shouldn't mind.
