Our trip to the Southwest is over, we are back home. Random assortment of statistics: 6200 miles, 15 days. 13 states, 2 countries. Saw 26 parks / monuments / sites, hiked 22 miles. Average mpgs were 15.9, which honestly I'm okay with considering weight and mods. Temps from 29 with light snow at night (Navaho, NM) to 109 in the daytime (Big Bend).
Camped out renegade or dispersed every night, and slept two of us in the back.
GX was flawless on everything. The only thing, and I mention this just as a weird note, is that the bolts for the driver's grab handle on the A pillar loosened a little and the handle was loose. I popped the tabs and tightened the bolts and that was that. Everything else including the 4runner roof rails and their "missing" bolts (3 each side instead of 4) worked fine even with a 125 lb load up there.

Finally got me some real roof rack. The blackline bars and roof basket was annoying. And more light is always good!

Is there not a basket / rack that works with the blackline rails?
Yeah, but they're noisy, clunky, and not as usable. Frontrunner is modular and everything integrates cleanly.
You have to look at what the Blackline rails can support, probably 80 to 200 lbs.
Most people put crossbars, then a rack...on top of those, before realizing they are quickly out of room or over capacity. I went with a Gamiviti because I prefer a welded solution, lots use Prinsu or SSO.
Got some new wheels mounted today. Rotiform STL's.
I've had roof racks since before the term SUV was a thing and had to make our own. I used mine for carrying canoes mainly starting with my FJ55 by fabricating gutter brackets and used 2x2 hardwood. Over the years I have gotten away from them due to either being ripped off in the woods or reducing gas mileage, noise, etc. Besides now that I live in the land of 10,000 lakes and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness makes sense that I now no longer have a canoe for the first time in my life
One of the first things I purchased for the GX was the Gamiviti accessory mount for all my RAM arms and attachments. Was a little hesitant because of the price but once I got it in my hands I was blown away at the stoutness and build quality. From the little bit I've seen of Tim's work if I was going to put on a roof rack Gamiviti is the first place I would look.

Me too! But back in the day they were called "surf racks"! Aside from surfboards, they worked great for lumber from the local hardware store too.
(note: this was not my bus, wish it was, just a photo with those racks.)

Side swiped in Weld County. Hit and run. Truck didn't have plates or a temp tag. Done all the admin work just waiting to hear back on next steps.
Seems like the perfect time to get a metal front bumper, you know, for safety
Does ok on the rocks. I probably need more lightbars.

What the firetruck!!! WOW! Really sorry to see that happen to you.
God has a great sense of humor and I'll guarantee you, he'll get his!
On the bright side, maybe you can up grade to a steel bumper or something? I'm sure they should be cheaper than rebuilding the front end, if so the insurance shouldn't mind.

Yeah, I am investigating all the options.
I dislike how much the Iron Man bumper sticks out, but it looks like the best option for my use case.
i cant justify the premium for an ARB from Slee.
I am hoping I can save the custom grill, but its definitely borked and may not be saveable.
