Looks nice! But the incremental cost-per-inch to carry a "slightly" larger spare tire is getting ridiculous! But that is tempting to have the ability to remove it and only have it for off-road adventures. JW carrier is full-time. Bumpers of near that cost are "full-time". Around town, I'm comfortable with a slightly smaller spare, given the number of flat tires I've had, or am likely to have. Hmm... But $1,800??? Can you actually tow anything with it? Or only accessories?

I finally got the GX stuck for the first time! Got myself out with the help of my collapsible trenching shovel, but it was a good reminder not to do anything too stupid when out alone with the family. I'm really glad we're not spending the night up there right now.

We made it out and a good time was had by all. That's all that matters.

I finally got the GX stuck for the first time! Got myself out with the help of my collapsible trenching shovel, but it was a good reminder not to do anything too stupid when out alone with the family. I'm really glad we're not spending the night up there right now.

We made it out and a good time was had by all. That's all that matters.

I also had time to snap a couple pics while I was out, so everyone wins.

I've had tougher driveways than that. Dumbass.

I aired back up at sunset. Because if I'm spending 20-30 min on the side of the road there'd better be a view.

By the way, that last pic above shows the pass I came over on the way in, the low saddle in the right 3rd of the frame. I left the pavement another 15mi beyond that at Dove Springs OHV. I took a shorter way out from the valley below to Walker Pass, but logged over 40 miles of trails today on easy through get-yourself-stuck level trails. Sand, hillclimbs, v-notches, descents, and finally snow. The truck excelled and even went beast mode a couple times. A-track made me a bit cocky. It worked right up until it didn't. Maybe it's time for MTS.

Suggestion, get some MaxTrax also. You don't need to keep them in your rig all the time, but throw them in the back when you do little excursions like this.

Yeah, MaxTrax definitely crossed my mind. The first thing my wife said was, "you have something to get us out of this, right?" I tossed some dirt/sand under the tires and cleared the rockers out and that got me the first couple inches. After that I rocked it until I got momentum. It was about as easy as I could hope for, just a warning shot to get my attention. I'll be considering my options before the next outing.

I also just realized that the road where I got stuck is the same one where I was turned back by snow last March coming from the opposite direction. I've now driven all but about one mile if that road. Looks like I've got a nemesis.

If you had two you’d of been ok but four is ideal! Know that’s $600 but cheaper than a tow and worth the piece of mind. I tried the knock offs and wasn’t satisfied so I went back for the real thing. Agree you don’t have to keep them on/in the car at all times. Thanks for sharing your adventure!

I agree that a set of four is ideal. I keep two on my rig all the time and I have another two in the garage for when we're out the the trail, I'll throw the extra two in back.
But again, I have front and rear lockers, MTS and a winch, so I'd have to be in pretty bad shape to not get myself unstuck.

Do you have MTS and/or CC installed? Wondering how the "snow/mud" setting might have worked, or just CC to back out?
