Has anyone found headers for the GX460? I've only found 1UR-FE headers for Tundra / Sequoia, not GX.

The design of the GX exhaust manifold does look pretty restrictive, and I've done enough research to see similar manifold design on other 4.6L platforms. A good set of headers should really improve breathing and hp/tq.

Subscribed.

Different engine with the 5.7L in the Tundra and Sequoia so I doubt those will work. I’d be interested in a set as well if such a thing exists.

What about the GS460 or LS460?

So the question is: will headers work from other models. The default answer would have to be "no".
The reason is that even though the engines and heads are the same (Toyota 4.6L), meaning the bolt pattern and exhaust ports all line up, the pattern that the tubes snake and contour through the engine bay to the underside is very different in each vehicle.
Think about how a Tundra or other Toyota with a 4.6L engine is laid out, where is the brake master cylinder, power steering, transmission tunnel, associated hoses and wiring along with any other accessories. Headers for each vehicle are designed to have matching length tubes to the collector (which is one reason why there is added performance) and in doing so have to be engineered to miss all those above mentioned components to reach their destination, the collector. Since most all vehicles are laid out differently under the hood and through the transmission tunnel, that affects how the tubing will be run to the collector.
So, to reiterate, the short answer is: no they will not work. Someone will have to come up with a GX460 specific designed header.

Yea - I understand all that. But Toyota does seem to use a lot of copy / paste patterns so it *might*. And in those engine bays, space is not a particularly precious commodity, so that coupled with the Toyota penchant for re-use makes me think it is a possibility.

They told me this a few years back for fit on 460.

"The exhaust ports would be the same and it would bolt up there. Not sure about the air injection port.
You would have to cut the flange off of the back of the new header and weld your cat on to it."

Stock manifold

I have never seen a 2nd Gen Sequoia or 2nd Gen Tundra with a 4.6L in it myself. They would have to be pretty rare, at least here in the Gulf States region.

I have to agree with your point, but I don't think that any other application would be plug-n-play. Having done engine swaps (a V8 into a '74 Chevy Vega) and other projects on cars when I was a kid, to get a header from another vehicle to fit would probably require a lot of pounding with a heavy hammer of the transmission tunnel and fire (and maybe even a little welding) wall along with probably having to reroute some wires and hoses, but if one really wanted to, I'm sure it can be done.
Heck! Look at some of the other awesome mods that have been done with "almost" fit components by some of our friends here on MUD!
Greenbow County is a great example of what can be done with a little imagination: Builds - Good luck Kiichiro! A build story.

I got a response from URD when I asked if they thought it would fit.

They told me that it would for sure bolt up, but the air injection ports might be different, and the flange angle might be wrong for the GX since the GX frame rails are narrower.

I'm sure - as Acrad said, if you cut off the flange and did a welded on custom exhaust from the header back you could do it.

I was (am still) hoping for a bolt on header upgrade.

Like I said, get a big arse hammer and a welder if you're going to try and get another application header to fit! ;) I've done it before, so it's not impossible, but that was also before injectors and all that other junk was needed in the days when hot-rodding a car was a lot simpler.
But if you have the time and skill set and don't want to wait for a model specific header, I'm sure there would be quite a few that would be very interested in your project!
With all due respect, I don't mean to be a downer, but my concern for someone coming out with a GX header is that our vehicles are already 10 years old and I don't believe anyone has even made any prototypes to try. I think our vehicles are getting a little long in tooth for newer aftermarket products.
I'd be very happy to be proven wrong!!

I tend to disagree... I think there may be a greater market now. Traditionally the owners of these vehicles were just getting them serviced at their Lexus dealers with no intent on doing anything really substantial aftermarket or modding them.

In these last few years sure...all bets off... drive off dealer lot and many mod... but the first 5-6 years of the 460's production run... not really.

Disclaimer... would be in Eurasian market... lots of mods came out of there from the start.

2nd, 3rd, 4th owners obviously care far less about keeping stock.

I think the GX470 headers from Doug Thorley are a relatively recent development.

I agree with Acrad that aftermarket support / upgrades dribble in as the platform reaches the age that they're widely modified. Or maybe I'm confusing hope with belief? :)

Nothing will happen if vendor doesn't sense demand so if URD is willing to commit to custom let us know. We can post on GXOR (actually all the 460 channels) so URD can see the market for product. They would probably want a local in Maryland to do a mock up on loaned vehicle.
