I know the 4th gen 4R and GX470 are the same part numbers for skid plate and tank. Same with the 5th Gen 4R and GX460. Fuel capacity of the four is same. Both sit in the same location with each using six bolts for the skid plate. I've seen Toyota change part numbers on same part. Either used in a different vehicle or something related to a part changes so the part got a new number as well. I was under the 4R making sure the transfer case oil was okay and noticed how close the fuel skid plates looked.

I am in AZ and rust is a non issue. I've debated mounting the full skid plate and spacing the half skid plate on the leading down just enough to fit. Zero value in half skid plate and leading edge is the area that most likely going to be hit. Plastic tank is relatively cheap but no fun being miles from pavement with hole in the fuel tank.
Not sure on the skid plate, I was speaking about the fuel tank. I wouldn't be surprised if the skid plate shared bolt patterns/shapes.
 
Here the parts diagrams available on line. Haven't compared side by side definitely different diagrams but skid plates have the same mounting points for the 470 and 460.

Interesting the six mounting bolts for skid plate have completely different parts number.

I only played around with disabling traction control early on with my 460 in the snow/ice and could tell right away it felt like old school open diffs. ATRAC is highly regarded at this point and has been out over 25 years since the Late 90’s 100 series IIRC. MTS gets you the ability to tweak it.


I know some don’t like the on demand 4WD setup on Polaris quads/UTVs but I’ve always been fine with it on mine…even though I picked up a ‘22 Grizzly a few years back and it has a more manual setup which I have been ok with too.

I've been critical of Polaris' system over the years. It works well, but so much of ATVing is the experience and interactiveness of it all; again, having the machine do the work for me always feels like a cheat code that I don't necessarily want to employ. I know this isn't representative of the general buying public, but that's just where I stand on OHV 4x4 systems-- and that's why Yamaha's is still the best.
 
I’m very happy with my Grizzly. The Yamaha ultramatic is much smoother than the CVT in my Polaris quads, That being said my Polaris have held up well…. I still have the first year EFI 2004.5 700 that fires right up and a ‘13 550 XP EPS

I tend to ride my tracked quads now more than my snowmobiles in the winter.

i have a few nicks on my plastic fuel tank and they are all on the front leading edge. When you have rock stuck between the transfer case skid and fuel tank skid, you are bound to get some damage. That is a flaw I see with the RCI skids- I wish the t case skid went back farther like build built design, and wished the fuel tank skid had more of a ramp like OEM.
 
I have made it over some difficult obstacles using the same lines as rubicons with them having both lockers on and me just having the center diff locked and atrac.

The diffs are not the limiting point for this platform with how much mechanical grip it has through KDSS and torque vectoring.
