Yeah I might even get some junkyard skirts, black them out, and coupled with those Exp1 step sliders might be a good option.
Also came across the NYTOP "bumpers" but they seem to hurt the angles while protecting....could just slide over stuff lol.

of course all this stuff is nice and pricey as hell.
I just posted on Guide to GX 460 Builds and Aftermarket Products requesting for TX GX460 to add the NYTOP link to the Aftermarket Products page.
Also, have you looked at that sticky post yet? A lot of good options there.

Randomly came across these on Facebook marketplace....$1000 for all 5. Seems like a good deal. Clinton Township, MI.
Tempting hoard purchase lol, but I dont have the drivetime.
Regarding these tires, are they 17" or 18"?
If they're 18's, if you're going to spend money on after market wheels, I highly recommend going with 17" wheels.
There's a lot of good reasons for going with a smaller wheel and taller side wall.
I can list them all if needed.

I absolutely agree with your assessment of adding skids, but also rock sliders and maybe even trim up the front and rear bumpers a wee bit to increase approach and departure angles, of which is the bane of GX's, compared to their cousins the 4R's.
If you're looking to keep that factory look, yet as you say, maybe attack some back roads, you may consider swapping out the side steps for rock sliders. There are a few out there that can look almost like factory side steps, especially if you paint them that Nori green.
This was pretty much my approach. Went with a low pro front bumper, sliders and skids for the occasional moderate trail. Im even still running street tires and have managed a black diamond trail on them... Very carefully.

Eventually ill throw some 32" A/Ts on them but for now the stock LTX tires are doing just fine.

Decent, but not great price. If you plan on using the tires or absolutely need the blackline wheels, then it's great. Those are the OEM tires that came on mine and they were super comfortable and quiet the 1,000 miles they were on the car. I sold mine for $1,200 with everything.

Those tires may be fine now, but I'd suggest staying away from any mud and snow in a few months! ;)

To snorkel or not to snorkel...
Undecided. My primary interest if for dust reduction. I am worried it will get ripped off the truck by an obstacle.

No need to list, I’m a fan of all sidewall possible. FJ is on 255/85r16s. Even went with the silly “small rotor” 6pot Stoptech kit to retain those 16s. I did ask SOS if the same kit would work on the GX (16s would be great) but they said no….

You can get 255/85R17s. I am running 285/75R17s and love them.

17" 4Runner take offs and 255/80 17 pizza cutters for the win

Yeah, our brakes are too big for 16"er's.

Yeah even though they're M+S rated, I stay out of the slick stuff. I found the limit right after a blizzard last year 😂
M+S rating doesn't mean anything capability wise. It just means the tread looks a certain way.

That being said, I got through a few crazy mud holes with Revo 3s, but they dont hold a candle to MTs

You might think I would know that after spending at least 3 years in the tire industry but you're telling me something new lol.

Tires are usually the first thing I put on any off road "build" that I buy, but the GX was an exception this time. I wanted to see how far I could really go on some good street tires. So far I'm pretty happy with it since I do most of my wheeling on dry and rocky trails. I usually avoid deep sloppy mud anyway because IH8 cleaning it off! 😂

I totally get it. I only know because I am an engineer that neurotically researches every tire purchase for hundreds of hours.

Why i like the 3MSF ratings. They mean a tire has a certain level of grip. I just hope they continue to evolve that every 5-10 years to spur competition and r&d.
