I chopped mine at the muffler side. Another option is a hordless Hackzall, which is much easier into tight places than a Sazwall. With a short blade you could probably chop it right near the flange, making it easy to patch in the future with a short coupler section (possibly being clamped without any welding at all).
to clarify, I have a Ryobi battery powered reciprocating saw. I am leaning towards giving it a shot this weekend. I think a muffler shop would end up cutting it, anyway. The threads on both bolts look pretty nasty.

Doesn't it seem easier to atleast try to remove the bolts from the proper side? If they come out, great, if they snap off, then you've still achieved your goal. Cutting pipe and expecting a muffler shop to repair it back to the quality of the factory weld mentioned is asking a lot. Most muffler shops are s***. That my $0.02

I did try to remove from the top with one of them when I was initially, incorrectly fighting with the welded nut. I could only fit a straight wrench in there as there isn't a ton of room (see the zoomed-out pic I posted of the space). Whenever I get back to it again, I'll likely try removing them first, though I don't think I'll be able to apply enough force to snap them based on the available space. I need to figure out where my small breaker bar is. In theory I might be able cut off the welded nut/bolt situation and if I ever wanted to reinstall, it would now just be a loose nut/bolt instead of the OEM welded style. I don't have an angle grinder, though.

I do follow your point about a muffler shop weld vs OEM weld, but it's cheap and if it breaks in a couple years just get it repaired for the same cheap price lol

I drive rather slowly on my way home from work and can sometimes get decent mileage. Note my speedometer and odometer are uncorrected.

Hey! You have a topped off fuel gauge! How'd you do that? 🤔
Every time I top off, my dash says around 4.5 MPG!
What did you do? Get gas at the top of the hill and coast home?

Cheyenne is higher than loveland. Had about 70 miles or so in the tank.

Normal mileage when I don't have crazy winds, which is at least 33% of the time.

I did the math. Omw to work I ascend over 2200 feet and descend 1000 feet. Omw home i descend 2200 feet and ascend 1000 feet. I also try to take max advantage of descents where possible and not holding folks up. Here is my mileage after getting to work and completing the loop.

that's unadjusted, though? meaning, if you have larger tires your MPG is actually better than that?

I have days where I get 10 mpg driving up to Cheyenne in 50+ mph headwinds.

I got 8.8 mpg pulling 6,000 lbs of boat 123 miles. Got about 20 on my way to pick it up. Mostly flat with some gentle grades.

I only tow ~2500 pounds but at least once a week for 190 miles round trip in the summer. In the next month will add an additional 1K miles to that for 2 tournaments coming up in Wi.

Same trip to my "local" sporting clays course, no towing average close to 19 mpg.

Towing it is almost always just over 10 mpg, just over.

If I am running into the wind it will drop down to single digits. The GX is actually a bit better than my 6 banger Taco was for gas mileage. And while I really liked my Taco, I kept it for 11 years, the GX has a LOT more smiles per gallon. Especially once I get out at my destination I don't feel nearly as beat up. In the 70's drove my FJ55 cross country in 3.5 days with no power steering, cruise control, AC, etc. and was none the worse for wear. Now at the thought of that, well just shoot me LOL.

Did you get it on eBay or Amazon? It may very well be a real OEM filter, but IMO it's not worth the risk of a fake from using either of those sellers.

Better to get them from a real Toyota dealer (or a legit eBay dealer like Bell Lexus).
