LOL.

The fronts were made to be trimmed so here we can get factory turbo diesels and petrols to sit the same height.

If you trim a dead coil it only effects ride height and free height, compared to trying to cut active coils :princess:

I know you John... your just giving me a jab.
The free height is same as your rear 5" Comps. The Slinky coils are sitting almost 3" more in lift over what I had. That's to much.
I have a stinkbug rig again... I hoping they will settle down a bit.
Currently sitting at 4.25" lift in front 4.75" rear including the 1" body lift.

Did you get the medium or heavy version?

I posted just recently that I have a crhonic front driver bearings loosening up. I installed the TG units & just the other day it was loose again. I don't know what to do now. @jtowpark says it is my threads on the spindle. I added another spacer to push it out to other threads but not sure this is the problem. I went on a 250 mile road trip yesterday & it's loose again. I don't mind buying a new spindle if that is the prob. Here is my threads, they look good to me. What do you guys think?

Either way, I would replace the spindle. I have seen several spindles with really loose bearing. So, how sloppy are the bearings on the spindle? New spindles are such that the inside of the bearings are snug to the spindle, having to use some pressure to install.

FYI, I found that spindles from Amayama are cheap.... shipping costs suck, but overall cheap!

I have the heavy duty 7511 160lb/320lb Redline didn't have the intermediate 7501 160lb//270lb
Gary, Isn't it advertised that you can cut the coils to fine tune your lift? I remember reading that somewhere.
Yes my rear coils have 2 dead turns. I may not completely understand it, but if I cut them out then I just have a single rate 320lb coil. I rather just get a spring that fits my application. I run light in rear, just have a 37" spare have maybe 100 lbs of stuff no 3rd row & a 50 lb bumper. I'd say approx 200 lbs extra weight.
At this point I think I'm riding on the 160lb rate part because the ride is good going down the road with just me & when family gets in, it gets firmer.
I'm wondering if Slinkies are like OME... 3" lift front & 2"lift in rear might work??? My ADD is trying to get the best of me. At this point I'm going to leave it for now.

Cut the bottom, not the top, so you can retain the dual rate spring feature.

Couldn't you just cut the fat out of the middle? Call it Trump style! Try to fix something, and destroy everything in the process.

I could have sworn this new style of spring was the new ultimate..........now they have to be cut, to get "exactly" what is needed? Time for version 2.0, so soon? What happened? They seemed like an interesting idea.

No, no... don't get me wrong I have the HD version. I just need more weight in the rear. They do have a lighter coil.

So you got almost 4" out of them, but when weighted down you are saying it's really stiff. Meaning the ride is harsh, or it just doesn't compress much over bumps, or...?

The HD makes sense for ride height (you have that extra body lift now), but the transition to 320 lb/in may be too much for a non-expo build. Still have OME shocks back there or upgraded? If OME L, that's a variable I'd want to change before settling in on swapping them again, unless of course you can tell the coil rate is just too much.

I'm curious because 75mm lifts are useless to me, and HD (if I am going to change coils at some point) adds the extra lift I'd need.

Why are we looking at the spindle again? The bearings are what move, so that's the first thing I'd be looking at. When you replaced them, did you change the races as well? How are you setting preload?

They were designed to be trimmed if required in the front, that is correct, not that its by something you guys need, because you dont get the turbo diesel cruiser, only the petrol, so to ba able to trim isnt really required. Just like using a trim packer to set up a vehicle more exactly re corner weights, and heights when you didnt opt for coil overs to have adjustment.

But just another feature we designed into this coil when we made it ;)

Version 2 we are working on is with 16s and 17s and double slinkies at both ends of the coil to stay captive, but they are still a fair way off.

So I have read back through the last few pages & I want to thank all the guys that have been apart of my jurney. You have all been helpful & supportive.

This suspension stuff has been a huge learning curve for me. I have made so many changes one at a time which has allow me to feel what is effecting what. Last post was the stiffer HD coils that gave me a bit of stink... I was trying to stay light & learned I can't do that, so I added another 250lbs in the rear so I'm around 400 lbs constant load now. The rear went down about .5 & now it feels much smoother. The other day I installed the new Icon Slinky spec front Nitro charged shocks. This lifted my rig up about an .25" now my steering twitch has gone away & the handling is much better.

The rig is now sitting around 24.5" on all corners +-.25" that's a 3.5" lift plus the 1" body lift. Geez 4.5" of lift... what happened to my low COG?

What I have now is 4 Slinky coils & 2 Icon shocks up front & OME Ls in the rear. I really like how it has transformed my rig. Pictures are comming...

Didn't I tell you that 4" is where you want to be? You could have saved a lot of time and money if you would have just listened to me from the beginning......hahaha

Gary was the journey worth it for you? It sure wasn't worth it for me! If i knew the things back then when I first started, I would have kept it all stock except for the bump stops and the shocks and the fridge!

Glad you're happy with your sweet ass Slinky setup. So what are you gonna do now? Time to wheel that beast!
