Now that you have the slinky set up, could you get rid of the 1" body lift to get down to the COG you want and still have the desired travel up/down too?
I'm a bit of a long travel suspension moron, but I'm learning, thanks for all the sharing of information you've gone through.

I look forward to your (and others) experience with the Slinkys, they are looking to be a major improvement.
 
Glad you're happy with your sweet ass Slinky setup. So what are you gonna do now? Time to wheel that beast!
The family is planning a 7 day trip around the Bass Lake Yosemite area... hoping to finally meet @malteserunner & do some wheelin with him.

OK, Hopefully I have it this time, I have been leaving out an important step. I was not rotating the tire as I torqued it to set the bearings. :doh::bang: I was doing the whole process then bolting the tire on. To confirm I took pictures of placement the last 2 times to compare & the nut or key DID NOT move so this has to be it. If you don't hear back on this all is well.

I could remove the body lift, but there is a bunch of benefits a 1" body lift offers than just lift. If I did take it out then I would need to add one more inch to the bumps stops to prevent that one inch of up travel which means a loss of two inches of up travel at the tire. I still need to add a winch, 2nd batt & rear swing out to the rig which will lower it.

Bottom line is I need to stop messing with it & just drive it more!:steer:

Quick & dirty shock report:
The specs on the mystery front Icons are 17" compressed 28.25" extended measured at the collars. End result is they are the same specs as my Doetsch Techs that I just took off. Mount to mount which is a more accurate way to measure is 19" compressed 30" extended.
I'm very happy with the end result of my set up.:):bounce::steer:

I had an itch on my way to the grocery store... so I had to scratch it.
I can't belive how big these fenders are... 37"s almost stuffed & can go up even more than this.

joking aside, how does the truck handle with just the rear sway bars?

also, your brake lines seem to be a little short?

As for a sway bar I can drive safely without one but having one would greatly improve road performance. I'm hoping the thinner "fj80" front swaybar is the put it on & leave it happy medium that I'm looking for. @AutoCraft Aus Darren says that's what he does.... AutoCraft runs a thicker rear & thinner front. Right now it feels like I'm back on 35"s again. The Slinky suspension makes me want to drive faster... it really gives me confidence to go bigger & enter turns faster. Off road it's comfy & stable... the rear doesn't unload as much as my other single rate coils did while doing off camber down hill turns.

The stock brake lines have been clearanced.

I am looking forward to do other things to my rig rather than suspension... I'm actually sick & tired of R&Ding suspension. I want to work on a center console, 2nd batt, winch, getting my spare outside & a rack so I can sleep in the back on trips.

At the expense of stating the obvious...it's already off, so you don't have to do anything. Those are the best decisions :rimshot:.

Also, one way I always thought about this was a reason I like having a built 4x4 for highway/urban use. There are times when the best solution is to bail to avoid a major accident. This is more likely in places that see a long winter, and I've been there (jacked semi in front suddenly out of the fog on an icy highway, semi behind, 45 mph). I do not want a front swaybar jacking the suspension all over the place in those events potentially causing a roll, and I've had to make some pretty good evasive maneuvers without it.

The issue in my mind isn't "sway". It's how the suspension reacts to more sudden inputs. Try it both ways in a safe environment. You might be surprised.

Also keep in mind that pulling an OEM component could create legal liability in an accident, so call your lawyer :grinpimp:
 
Its taken a few days, but that's quite a read! Just had a couple of questions I wanted to clear up.

Did you ever swap out your camber bushings on the front control arm?

Do you think the 2.0 icons have enough dampening for the rig?

Did you ever swap out your camber bushings on the front control arm? No I did not & good thing I was over corrected with the OME 2° & 2.5" MAF brackets. Now the rig is about 1.5" taller so it's about where it should be now. I read somewhere that for every 1" of lift needs 1.7° of correction.

Do you think the 2.0 icons have enough dampening for the rig? They are custom made for the Slinkies, I'm very happy with them. Darren M. really knows his stuff.

This looks like a direct fit... the fj sway bar is definitely way thinner than a fzj sway bar.

I've had the sway bar on now for awhile & really like it. Its about 2/3rds the feel of the bigger fzj bar on road, just enough to take out the sloppy feel just as the turn is initiated.... the front doesn't dive any more. Off road it just feels more stable, it's not ridged like the fzj bar was.
I did flex it out & the coils still push the shocks fully extended. This is the leave it on happy medium that I was looking for.:)
