Guys with 35-37s, WHERE do you rub?

ok so i have to ask. why not a lift? do you do any hard wheeling? i understand getting higher diff clearance but what about the rest of the truck? i definatley want to see pics of this! good luck!

Fair question. I do hard wheeling, and I have a dedicated rig for that (see buildup thread in sig). I want the 80 to be extremely capable while retaining its civility. I don't want to deal with big lifts, weird handling quirks or the hassles of dialing everything in so that all the handling quirks go away. My biggest problem with the 'wheelin I do in the 80 is ruts and draggin the ass. The rear quarter panels are getting chopped when I do this and a high clearance bumper/tire carrier will follow (wanted to get the body work done first).

My goal is to essentially pull up the skirts of the 80 w/o going to the extreme of a mini-skirt, make sense? :grinpimp:

This is not to say a small (~2") lift is not in my future, but if I run 2" of lift, I'd like to run 38s :D

:D
You want it to remain civilian but you're chopping the crap out of it:D
We think alike!

With my 2.5 inch lift and after bumpers and sliders to settle things down, to run 37s I would need.
-gears
-mudflap mods
-bump stop mods
-max underbelly armour

the beauty of low lift is you dont get inside rubbing on the rear from articulation and stuffing cause you don't have the range, and 37s would take 1.5 or 2 more inches of your range away.

I think if you are going to run 37+ on a 2" lift you should just get portals and get it over with:smokin:

Arya, reminds me of the XJ's, when everybody was afraid to do some trimming.

We know how to seal up some rear sheetmetal once you pass up the pinch seam... :D

When I put the 38's on with the "J" lift, the rear was fine, with small amounts of flex that I did. I never rubbed in the rear, and the bs on my wheels is 2"es, on a 15x10" wheel.

The fronts, fine on the road, until I tried to turn passed half way mark. They would hit right on the back side of fender, and fender flare, just like the XJ'x would. The 38's also hit the front bumper plastic end cap. I trimmed in an arc up to the attatchement bar. With the 33's back on, you don't even notice the trim job.

I looked under there, and there is some space behind the metal lip of the fender that could be easily trimmed, and folded back. I think under some off road flexing, I would be tearing some flares off too.

Bump stops would help, although I'd hate to limit flex like that. A body lift 1", with a 1" spacer and "J" springs, a litttle trimming, ok a lot with some trimming of the inside lip of the flares, and I think I could wheel with the 38's. These wheel wells have romm with some carefully planned trimming to fit 38's, i think.

4" Slee springs front, 863J's rear, 1" spacers on all four corners. 35x12.50 TrXus MTs. I only rub inside of rear wheel well directly above axle. Oh, and like Landspeeder, on the inner thigh on long jogs. :crybaby:
