You need to try and find out if it can be linked to a cylinder, But that sounds like heavy metal clanking to me. Did it come on gradually or after a specific incident? Does a cold engine or warm engine make a difference.
Do you know if the BEB have been done?
I would probably make sure its not an injection issue first.
