How would look Gunnison, CO weatherwise in late September? Too late to visit Black Canyon with VERY young kids or feasible without freezing to death? Snow chances? Chains needed? Any input appreciated.

Hard to say. Weather is unpredictable this time of year. It's snowing right now up high. :) I would head out there but bring gear for every scenario.

late sept is fine. leaves will be changing and weather is more unpredictable. It should be mid 60's to mid 70's if it's nice. If it's not it'll be cold and most likely rainy there vs snow. Can't rule it out though. It's a good time to go if the weather is decent.

Just got back from that area (Gunnison, Cumberland pass, Tin cup pass)....we didn't do Imogene Pass due to we couldn't get a straight answer from anyone in the area that the pass was open....It was 70's during the day, cloudy and got into the high 30's at night.

Good luck
