I put a york OBA setup on my 80 about a year ago with the Slee bracket and pulley. It has worked great. I ran lines to the front and rear bumpers and had a coalescing filter. I didn't notice hardly any oil in the coalescing filter, mostly just water. I didn't do the mod to it with the small hex headed screw or anything, so if you worried about the oil, it's really not that big a deal. I pulled my York off what looked like a 70s ford tow truck and took it apart and cleaned it, but that's it. I didn't have a tank, but I ran the pressure at 140psi and then had a 90psi regulator on the coiled hose I plugged in. It would fill tires, run and air ratchet and impact wrench just fine. You just had to wait a couple seconds for the air to charge up while using the tools. So, to sum it up, if you are thinking about doing this, I recommend it.

Flint, i thought that as long as the motor was running it was pumping? Is that not the case? I figured since it was belt driven and all.....

Not the case.

The compressor only operates when the clutch is engaged. The clutch is activated by a coil (electro-magnet) which is normally controlled by a pressure switch.

In addition to the pressure switch, I added a dash mounted switch that controls whether or not I want power to go to the pressure switch.

So, basically....I can operate the compressor two ways. If I have the dash mounted switch "OFF" then it doesn't operate at all (no matter what).

If I switch it "ON", then it runs until it fills the tank to a preset limit (135 lbs. in my case) and then pressure switch turns it off.

If pressure falls below (110 lbs. in my case) the compressor comes back on and runs again until it reached 135 lbs psi.

This way you can control exactly when you use your compressor. I run mine only when I need it. It doesn't take long to fill the tank.

good info!! I am now reconsidering.

Something else of interest.

When I said "it doesn't take long" to fill the tank, and that there is no reason to run the compressor until you need it, I really did mean "fast".

Just came in from testing mine.

I have a five gallon air tank mounted in the back of my old Bronco. I set the hand throttle at 800 rpm, then took a stop watch to see how long it would take to fill the tank (from zero) to 50,100 & 135 psi.

1. 0-50 psi.....20 seconds flat!

2. 0-100 psi.....50 seconds flat!

3. 0-135 psi.....1 minute 13 seconds!

Thats pretty darn good, running at what can be considered a high idle.

I can turn on the dash switch...and the compressor will fill the 5 gallon tank to 135 psi...then the pressure switch automatically turns it off. I can live with that. :D

Are these the aluminum Yorks? I have seen a lot of the the cast iron Tecumpseh (sp.?) being sold as yorks... no real difference other than weight.

Yes York 210 aluminum.

I have a Tecumseh (cast iron) as well. Weighs nearly 30 lbs.

yes I live in Simi Valley and work in Santa Monica - whichever works for you is fine. We can figure the logistics out once I grab another set!

Thanks,
Phil

Phil,

I live in El Segundo so meeting you in Santa Monica would be prefered...Thanks again for doing this..Tim

OK... so I got 3 compressors on this trip... not as many as I wanted. I basically picked my source dry... now they have tons of old Volvos siting there with no AC compressors or only bad ones :D

Anyways... I'm going to look for another source to get these out to you guys... I'll let you know ahead of time if I have to make adjustments to the price. I'm hoping I don't have to but I don't know how much they are going to be now until I find some.

Anyways... the first three on the list should have an email in their inbox (the one registered through MUD). If not an email I'll PM you.

can you run a turbo system with a york installed?

I'm trying to visualize it, and i can't seem to see it getting in the way.

OK so here's an updated list. I'm going to go and try and find more this weekend. What is the max you guys are willing to pay? I have to see if they are going to be more expensive since my original souce is dry... I'm not going to jack the price just cause you say you will pay $100 or something - I'll still give them to you guys for $60 if I can find them for the right price... its just a matter of seeing what prices other yards are charging.

It will not - the supercharger goes in the place where the York would go.

Should I still look for one for you or are you pretty set on the SC model?

Hey Phil, still and I "could" bump up if needed. Any word on lump's bracket or are we stuck spending $$$ on Slee's?

Phil,

Looks like I am out...cant pass it up...but still not a done deal yet..

haha, ol' sales trick.....so what's the least you will take? ;)

Haha... I'm not out to gouge people... I am just trying to make it worth my while to spend a Saturday I could be working on my truck :D Also, I really don't know how much more I'm going to have to pay to get them, so I'm just making sure people are still interested :)

Lumpdog said he's got some in hand but has to put on finishing touches.

I was just joking with you.
