just noticed today the differences in guage clusters
a 1980 has no fasten seatbelt writing in the lower right, both lower lenses are red
not sure exact year might be 81 or 82 the seatbelt writing on lense, but the lower left lense is red
a 1985 has the seatbelt in the center, the 4x4 is green and the choke is yellow

top one is the 85
middle one is the 80
bottom one is the 81/82

Thats strange. Are they all US gauge clusters?

My 84 has the one pictured on top.

Ditto - mine is a 4/84 manufacture date and has the same

As far as I know they are all US, I didn't think Canada ever got FJ's, just BJ's??

You got me.

We need a more enlightened cruiser expert.

My '82 has no choke light, and is like the one pictured on the bottom. The choke light space is now a check engine light CEL for the V8.

Dynosoar:zilla:

I don't think there was an actual 1980 FJ60. I'm sure there are part dates and probably build dates from months in 1980 but I believe the truck is considered a 1981 by Toyota. I would guess you are talking about dates stamped on the gauges.
Very interesting about the clusters, now I wanna go out and check my 81 parts rig.

Your correct, it's a Dec. 1980 build.....81 model year.

Where is the 4WD drive light for the cruiser with the cluster pictured on the bottom?

mine is like the second one, I think that the one of the top y for US 60's.. here in Venezuela most of the 60's have the second style cluster

That's kinda weird, my Australian '85 has the top cluster but the choke and 4wd lights are reversed. It does not have the seatbelt light but the handbrake indicator light (denoted 'park brake' - the 'brake' light refers to brake fluid level). Also these may also be the other way around too, but not sure. Also the speedo/gauges are reversed.

I wonder why they went to the trouble of switching the layout for the drive side..?:)
