A little update on what we are doing at Gturbo :)

To help us improve our products on all turbos from the Grunter through to the Bad Boy Extreme, we are testing our products in the most extreme sevice.

So far we had the debut race on the weekend of the 1HD-FTE powered GQ Patrol from HP Diesel running Gturbo supplied 300,000km old engine with added Bad Boy Kit.

Results have been exciting, it's nice to have some fun and do durability testing

But there are other engines we do that are exciting - the 4.5L V8 (1VD) and the 3.0 4cyl (1KD).

Starting with the V8, we are building our VDJ76 to compete in the class 8 along with the GQ 1HD-FTE Patrol.

It is intended to have the car ready for the start on next season and work will commence immediately.

It is anticipated we will start with ~ 1000nm and 300hp with our vnt turbo. While we will initially be down on power compared to the 1HD-FTE, we intend to close the gap once prototype testing of the next Gen Grunter and Bad Boy vnt is complete. These tests will have offshoots into vnt products for the 4.2 engines and ultimately the 1HD-FTE will also be raced with the vnt's.

It will be a while before we can exceed the current wastegated turbos peak power as the technology is now very mature, especially with our very latest update tested last weekend, but no doubt the vnt versions will ultimately replace the wastegated turbos. We anticipate a 30% wider operating rpm for any given equivalent wastegated turbo HP rating

So that leaves the 1KD-FTV 3 litre. We currently dont have a car yet, so I'll be hunting for a 2010 onwards automatic Hilux. Initially we will run class 7 as it's my son who is racing it and I'd like to "ease" him into it before unleashing him with 250whp we currently offer.

So, stay tuned, will post pics and video.

Awesome

Man, this is gonna be good. post up any videos please...

how are you planning to control the VNT's on non factory VNT engines like 1HD-T ... ? ( if that's your idea .. )

Control is perhaps the biggest hurdle. So that won't be revealed until the product is tested, various control strategies are tested and ready for sale. Now I know how long it takes to do these things, I'm thinking could be 12-18 months away before I can have them ready

I think you should do a BadBoy for the 3.2L Ranger, you can use my Wildtrak as the test machine :)

Awesome results with this GQ too!

Sure South, pop on by and I'll take a look at the std turbo on the 3.2, I'm interested in this engine.

FYI today a QLD customer (Just Autos) tuned a 1KD-FTV (3litre 4cyl D4D Hilux) with Gturbo a Stage 3 vnt. It did 276whp at 19:1 and 256whp at 21:1 afrs. Awesome boost response and runs ~ 39psi max on the road. The 256whp is the heavy towing tune.

Hey ya all

Thought I would give an update :)

We have done a lot if R&D in recent times to go grass roots on design for the turbine side of things on
the CT26. In particular we have been looking at "average efficiency" which basically means that we want the highest efficiency we can muster over the widest operating rpm range. This means lower turbine pressure relative to boost pressure which improves the engine efficiency by requiring less work to operate the turbocharger and improved scavenging of exhaust gas.

To you, this means more power from the same fuel flow rate. As an example, we recently started manufacturing turbos for the TD42 Nissan Patrol and a client undertook a comparison between our new turbo and one known to be the best in the market for the TD42. The Brand X turbo made 246whp. The Gturbo made 265whp (no fueling change) and more importantly far more torque in lower rpms (and every where else) and lower low rpm and midrange AFRs.

Then a customer ordered a inj pump for TD42 set for 230whp and it made 268whp and AFRs at 27psi were 21:1. Intercooling was simple front mount. We have never seen such good results.

Then yesterday/today the big one, the new Bad Boy for the 1HD-FTE. 35-38deg C ambient, but with XXi intercooler, airbox and dump pipe we made 359whp (266rwkw) at only 32psi boost.

This is a testament to the XXi accessories and Gturbo efficiency. I couldn't be happier with the result :)

AFRs ~ 18:1 average and are 18.5:1 at peak power.

In addition, testing has been performed in dyno and race conditions up to 47psi and the new turbo has been faultless.

I can see a new sideline installing full harnesses and roll-cages in 79 series soon! That thing must be insanely quick.

That IS awesome power

So cool. I just can't even fathom that kind if go. I'm hoping once my gturbo is on my 1hz I get half that
