I am planning on attending GSMTR at Windrock this spring (13-18 May). It's about 8.5 hours from the DC area, so not too bad a trip.
It looks like the park is huge and has a lot to offer so traffic jams will be limited and we can get plenty of actual wheeling in.
Is anyone else up for it or already planning to go? How many of you would want to stay in a cabin with a kitchenette? This would be especially nice if it rains that week. I am asking now because they have bunkhouses and cabins that house 4 and 8 real close to the event grounds, but they will probably fill up quick. If we can get semi solid numbers early, we can reserve the appropriate size cabin(s). I will check on the reservation and cancellation policies and post up here later.
So, the quesion is, who's going and would you want to stay in a cabin?

Six months out is kind of hard to plan, but........... I think I will be going. Depending on the price of the cabins they might be interesting

The 4 man cabins with bath/shower/kitchenette are $106 a night, primitive spots are $16 a night (for 2 pers), 9 man cabins are $175 and rv spots (power and water) are $38 (2 pers). I'm sure we could fit a couple more peeps in a 4 man cabin.
6 months out is early, but if we can get a rough number of folks willing to spend a bit more for the convenience of a private shower and toilet and guaranteed dryness, we can ensure we have a cabin. We could also rent a cabin as a gathering place and offer showers and kitchenette- to club members, in good standing, of course ;).

Still kinda far out to say I'm going but I am interested in going.

Looking at their website, it appears to me that primitive camping is included in the registration fee.

Yeah, I just noticed that as well. If they are not getting a discount for camping and $16 or $8 of our registration is going towards camping maybe that can be put towards other accomodations. That way those that choose to go with a cabin can use that to offset the fee.

Just trying to get the conversation started and people thinking about it. I've been wanting to go since '99 and haven't made it yet.

I haven't been in a few years and I need to get back to GSMTR.

It's the perfect place to drop off the rest of your tub and put that aluminum one to good use.

We are starting to plan now. It looks like I will be dropping Rhea and the kids off with friends in Asheville then heading over. Probability is high that I will be there.

Also planning a camping trip in Smoky Mountain National Park or surrounding area if anyone has a good suggestion.

I was thinking about going, but since Bob's going he'll just win all the raffle prizes so I have to rethink this.......

that map is not a great representation of how things are.

the map they have now is way way better than that old one.

im hoping i still have the one from 2 or 3 years ago.

if i have it i can get it to Bart probably the easiest, and you guys can study!
