Okay... for all of you who are planning to go to GSMTR this year, this is the place to figure it all out!

I'm happy to answer questions I know the answers to for anyone unsure of anything. And I'm quite certain anyone else will chime in if I don't know the answer.

This is what I know so far:

There are five of us signed up and ready to go:

Myself
Luis
Danny
Justin
Gregg

Anyone else? I know Archie signed up, but I think he fell into a sinkhole somewhere.

The plan that Luis and I have been talking about is driving up on Monday, then travel back on Sunday.

I liked the plan from last year. Last year we all met at the Ocala exit off 75 for Hard Rock, then went on from there. It worked out rather well.

I know Gregg is coming up later - Danny/Justin - you're heading up Monday as well, right?

I want to leave Monday morning and try to make it up there by 6 or so at the latest. justin's trying to convince me to split it into 2 days and leave Sunday and camp along the way but I honestly will need Sunday to get everything all in the truck and ready to roll at 6 or so Monday morning.

It's best if we all go together. That way if one of us has trouble, we're all there together to help.

Well, that all worked great last year until AFTER we hit the Turnpike-Ocala split. Cliff blew out (or or two?) more tires, and Luis had a blowout as well.

One the way up Cliff blew his first tire (these 80's are pigs I tell you!) and well all pitched in on the side of 75 to make for a quick fix. It might not have been NASCAR fast, but it was an unscripted coordination :)

So we should stick with the same plan going up. Leave early AM from Ocala, push thru and get to Tennessee before dark hits so we can get our bearings and get settled in.

it's 10 hours from tampa. so u and I need to leave here at 6 we can meet them at 715 or so. and u can't laminate bathrooms you'll make a huge mess.

Hah.

This is Cliff's schedule from last year. He was on a mission to keep time!

7:00 - on the road Ocala, drive to Cordele, GA (215 miles, 3hrs, 15 minutes) 10:15EST - refuel
10:45 - on the road Cordele, drive to Calhoun, GA (210 miles, 3hrs, 30 minutes) 2:15EST - refuel
2:45 - on the road in Calhoun, drive to Sparta, TN (135 miles, 2hrs, 30 minutes) arrival by 4:15 CST

Although the destination is different, I think it'll take slightly less time since we can stay on 75 longer this time and not have to go up 27 and thru all those other back roads like getting to Sparta.

Here's my take on the schedule:

1) Leave Ocala
2) Drive up 75. When enough people complain, stop.
3) Get gas whenever the biggest pig gets low.
4) Bring your own damn food and drink
5) Get there

Sound good? Good!

Now, go laminate that.

We made pretty good time. If only I did not have a flat on the trailer... we would have been there on time. NOTHING sucked more than a blow out 10 miles out of Ocala. Then on the way back, we stopped in Ocala again, 15 minutes after we got back on the road... Flat number 2. Birf (Ocala), Mirror/door (Ocala), rear quarter (Ocala)... You would think I would learn.

I still plan on starting up tuesday after work and sleeping somewhere in Georgia. Showing up GSMTR wednesday afternoon. My plan is driving back in the group if everyone leaves early enough.

I have some suspension work to do before I leave to replace a broken LCA ball joint and upgrade some other components. Life is never dull...

That's okay, today I just added a rear axle job to my list of things to do before GSMTR....

carter what time can you and luis meet us at what exit in or near ocala. i really want to have daylight left to set up our camp site when we get up there

I'd say 6AM. Luis and I are working out details, but we all want to leave early.

Same exit as Hard Rock. At Love's truck stop.

Preliminary itinerary plans:

1) Meet up in Ocala - Hard Rock exit, at Love's Truck Stop. 5:45AM.
2) Load up and hit the road by 6AM
3) I-75 North until Cordele, GA. ~200 miles, ~3 hours. Bio break, fuel up if needed.
4) I-75 North until Cartersville (hey, if I'm doing the itinerary, I pick the places!). ~200 miles, ~3 hours. Should be about lunchtime. Fuel up if needed.
5) Hit the road by 12:30 or so, head up I-75N to exit 376 for I-140E. ~160 miles.
6) I-140E to Oak Ridge. Hit up Wal-Mart. ~20 miles, ~2.5hrs from Cartersville (should be about 3PM)
7) Shop for food, etc. Fuel up. Hopefully done by 4:30PM.
8) Head into Windrock - about 8 miles, ~15 minutes from WalMart.

I called the camp ground this morning and they said there's a grocery store 2 miles away also so we don't have to overkill the Walmart stock up.

Yeah, I looked that one up... it's got a bad rep for being "nasty". Whatever that means.

Not that Wal-Mart is any better, but this is a supercenter so we'll be able to get whatever we might want there. But we'll do whatever the pleasure of the group is at the time. I don't think anyone is headstrong in this group.
