Update.

Please go to the UC site and register if you are coming. It's free. We just want to know who is coming. Upstate Cruisers GSMTR ‘09

Here is the skinny on the new GSMTR Rally. As I’m sure you are aware, Tellico is under severe threat with a recently announced “temporary” closure until 2011. All along, this years GSMTR was about raising funds for the “Rescue Tellico” effort. Even with Tellico temporarily closed, we are not giving up on supporting and fighting for the cause. So, what does that mean for GSMTR ‘09?

GSMTR ‘09 will still happen but it will be a rally more highly focused on raising funds for “Rescue Tellico”.

The event will run from Thursday through Sunday, June 18th through the 21st.

We will have a parts swap Friday, Trail rides as well as a Rock Climb Competition. That’s right we have trails! Not the ones that are closed and not hardcore trails but Danny at Crawford's has mapped out over 100 miles of forestry service roads along with several scenic overlooks and places to stop for a meal and a pit stop. On these trails are numerous river crossings, winding gravel and dirt roads and some blacktop roads. But the majority is off road. It’s not what we all want but it’s better than nothing and will give you and the family something to do and have some fun. We will have maps at the event to pass out to those that lead up a group. A sign up board will be at the pavilion for those wanting to group up to do these rides. Rock climbing will start around 2pm on Friday. There will be at least three categories.

We will have a tug-o-war on Saturday. Having never tried this it will be a first so bear with us.

We will as a group drive through Murphy Saturday to show support for the local community. We will all park at the WalMart shopping center. The owners of the shopping center have welcomed us with open arms. I say we show our support for them by supporting them. After we have had lunch and met with the media we will be splitting up into groups and traveling up the Skyway or on a lower gravel road that follows the Skyway down low. That way you can do what you want to do.

We will have a big raffle at the event on Saturday. We have been receiving steady shipments from sponsors so by next week we should have a good group of products to raffle off that night starting around 7:30. So far some of the big sponsors have been BFG and Iron Pig.

We will have a 5 big item online raffle. This will be announced around the first of July.

We will want to have dinner for Friday and Saturday night. It may be a spur of the moment dinner. As we have not asked for any money to pay for food.
We will do what we can. Plan on there being my world famous Rotel for both nights. Just remember to check the forum early next week for more details. But for now plan on making your own dinner.

We will donate all (100%) profits to the Rescue Tellico fund for the fight to open Tellico back up. The event will be a pay as you go event. Book your reservations at Crawfords, and pay for meals, raffles etc… at the event.

We are asking those that are coming please register so we know how many plan on coming. If you have any questions please contact me. If you have an idea or want to help please call or e-mail me. Trollhole@upstatecruisers.net or call me Marshall at 864-414-0563

And, PLEASE support the “Rescue Tellico” cause, don’t change your plans to attend this years GSMTR! This may be the most important event of the year. The cause needs support, financial as well as through a show of support for the community. If your plan now is to go somewhere else during GSMTR your letting them win. We have a chance to make a difference. A very big difference. I will also promise you will have a really good time. It’s a beautiful place.

Thanks,
The Upstate Cruisers BOD

I hate that we have to back out, but family is coming up for father's day that does not usually make it up.
George and the family...BTW...2 of the 3 cruisers sold last weekend, still have the red one!

Brian did you get a camp ground reservation or did he just tell you to show up also??

What site numbers is everyone else in??

I did not get a reservation yet. I was going by word of mouth.. you! I will be leaving, probably around 1am to get up there. I have a weeks worth of training that they have been trying to get me in, so I won't be able to be there Friday. I figure I'll go home and go to sleep, Heather can pack. Don't worry, we've done this before....

Who else is going (final roll call?)? I haven't been bird dogging this one like the others...

I'll be there Thursday afternoon, most likely in just the Tundra. It'd be nice to have the 40 or 4Runner there, but I'm not sure it makes sense to tow it all that way if the trails are closed.

I have an HOA meeting Thursday night (I'm the prez so guess I should attend), but am trying to get the :princess: on board with me being gone the entire weekend. She doesn't want to go but I'll see if I can convince her to not give me grief for going solo.

Will be doing my best to linger in the mountains till the festivities begin. Heading up today.

Jon, Steve and I will be there so tell stephanie youre in good hands....er something like that.

FYI - nearby attraction on pavement...The Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, with 318 curves in 11 miles.

So far I have 75 people registered with what I'm sure is many more that have yet to get online and register. Looks to be a good turnout.

Also as an update Sat we will be going out to the Valley Village Shopping Center to show our support not the Wal-Mart as first posted.

Greg, Jon, anyone who is going.... can someone save me a camp site next to them??? I'll be there late ish tonight with 4 people..... non cruiser heads. I would like to be somewhere near the rest of the club.... I am now realizing that no one will get this.

I got it...mostly b/c I'm still not sure if I'm going :frown:.

Is Andrea coming with you?? I might drive down and stay Saturday with the :princess: and dog. I'm busy today focusing on finishing the 40.

I'll say the same thing, but I'll be there early tomorrow morning....

Doubt anyone is checking but we should be heading out late tomorrow and using it as a rest stop on a longer trip.

Hope to see some of you there. shoot me a PM with phone numbers if you are going. All I have is Al's number.

Jason

I'll try and give you guys a call in the morning, but due to a stomach bug, we're backing out. We were all packed up, but Heather's not feeling up for the trip... Everyone have fun!.

Just got back, long drive after stopping at every antique store on the way home.

Kinda bummed that only four of us made it out there but oh well it happens. It was good hanging out with Jason, Jason and Allen.
Big thanks to Jason for letting me ride shot gun and do some steep ass trails down in Georgia for a few hours on Saturday.
(one of our members also won the rock crawling comp, but i'll let him post that up)
I'll have pics up later. Good people and some very nice trucks out there, some very rare trucks out there also.

We went to Beasly down in Georgia for 5 hours on Sarturday. If you have ever been there you will know what I mean when I say steep hills. I've never seen anything like that before, just ask Jason about them. I don't think I really had any pics on the really steep inclines as my one had was on the oh sh%t handle and another on Broady to make sure he didn't fly to the back of Jasons rig.

Things I leared about ONSC at GSMTR

1) Brodie Brown is smarter than most people I know.

2) Do not hand Jason F. a mason jar and expect it to come back to you with anything in it.

3) Alex is my favorite person because he loves his dog so much.

4) Al's beard is quite impressive

5) You all rock! Thanks so much for donating the winch and for joining us at GSMTR.

It was a great time and I look forward to the next time we get together.
