I might be looking for a ride for my little brother, dad and I. Well just some rides on the trails when we get there.

I'm starting out in Tellico then heading to Southern Illinois to visit and hike with my cousin in Ozark and then hitting up the F100 GSM(no T)R in Pigeon Forge on the way back 10 day round trip. All of this with my dad and little brother cramed in my 56 Ford F-100 that I just about have finished...so no trail rig this year. One of those adventures you remember you whole life type of thing, even though it will probably suck on those long 7 hour drives.

We can trade in beer and jib jab if anyone has any room.

Looking forward to it.

From the Upstate Board:

As I'm sure you are aware, Tellico is under severe threat with a recently announced "temporary" closure until 2011. All along, this years GSMTR was about raising funds for the "Rescue Tellico" effort. Even with Tellico temporarily closed, we are not giving up on supporting and fighting for the cause. So, what does that mean for GSMTR '09?

GSMTR '09 will still happen but it will be a Rally even more highly focused on raising funds for "Rescue Tellico".

  • The event will run from Thursday thru Sunday, June 18th through the 21st.
  • We will have a parts swap Friday as well as a Rock Climb Competition
  • We will have a tug-o-war on Saturday
  • We will as a group drive through Murphy Saturday to show support for the local community.
  • We will as a group drive up the skyway and back through trail 1.
  • We will have a big raffle at the event on Saturday
  • We will have a 5 big item online raffle
  • We will have dinner for Friday and Saturday night.
We will donate all (100%) profits to the Rescue Tellico fund for the fight to open Tellico back up. The event will be a pay as you go event. Book your reservations at Crawfords, and pay for meals, raffles etc... at the event.

As far as your currently pre-paid registration dollars, all will be refunded in full. Those of you who wrote checks will receive a check within the next 10 days. Those of you who paid through Paypal, you have a choice of check or Paypal (there are fees associated with that). Please just let me know how you'd prefer to be refunded. If your address has changed from the time you registered, let me know your new address.

And, PLEASE support the "Rescue Tellico" cause, don't change your plans to attend this years GSMTR! This may be the most important event of the year. The cause needs support, financial as well as through a show of support for the community. If your plan now is to go somewhere else during GSMTR your letting them win. We have a chance to make a difference. A very big difference. I will also promise you will have a really good time. It's a beautiful place.

Thanks,

The Upstate Cruisers BOD

I will not be going if Tellico is closed. I have a cabin that I will cancel, already donating to rescue tellico. I would be interested in going somewhere I can wheel, I heard there is a place in Harrisonburg VA that is nice to wheel in...not sure, but I have the time and want to go somewhere.

I can understand where your coming from. But we need everyone to come show their support for Tellico and the people who depend on it being open. While giving money to the Rescue fund is a great start. It won't help the people who need our support now. Crawfords and many others cannot survive without us. All of us.

To me the event isn't about wheeling. That is just a perk. To me it's about hanging around a couple hundred or so cruisers and their owners and families. That is what I remember. What I would suggest is for people who normally stay the whole week to maybe go somewhere around that is somewhat close and wheel and then roll into Tellico Friday and stay thru Sunday. We sure would love to have you and you family. Plus there will be a ton of raffle schwag to give away. And it might be the first time we get a large chunk of the surrounding clubs together.

Hi Marshall,

I agree that it is great hanging out with other cruiserheads and families. I personally already support this area and surrounding business's as I take 3-4 trips a year out to Andrews, Murphy, Cherokee and Robbinsville.

Perhaps I will change my mind as the event gets closer. But for now, I want to wheel during this time.

Brad

Brad,

I understand what you are saying - if you want to wheel then ya gotta wheel - BUT, the parties that are working to close Tellico want for people not to come. They want for Tellico to be swept under the rug. The want for Tellico to be forgotten.

I would suggest that you wheel the fool out of your rig earlier in the week and then maybe come to Tellico for the weekend...just a suggestion. I'll definitely be at Tellico Thurs thru Sunday and I might even come in a day earlier to relax before people arrive. If you make it I'll have a beer for you.

I'll get my wheeling in at the East Coast 4Runner Jamboree 2 weeks before GSMTR, but I'll still make my annual drive to Tellico. It'll be the first year that I've camped at Crawfords, and I'll miss the fun that I've had camping in McNabb Overflow for the last decade with my buddies from NoVA and it will be strange being there but not being able to break a birfield on Lower 2, but I'm looking forward to GSMTR '09.

Who is still going??? I've decided that I want to go even so and am trying to get Andrea on board also. If anything it will be fun to just relax kinda like the OBX trip. Only problem is i'm pretty sure the 80 will be on the jack stands again as i've designated june to pull of suspension parts, replace bushings and clean and paint some of them.

Anyone interested in a fully equipped cabin, call Crawfords now, I just canceled mine.
Looks like I may still be able to swing by Tellico for a day or so, but have to drop my daughter off at college at WCU the end of the month, so it may not be during this same weekend.

I thought she had a cool new 80 to drive out to college now?

Yeah, she does. But she is going to the summer program and we have to drop her off (to stay) and do an orientation weekend $$. It's just another scam.

Orientation is not a scam...that is when you figure out who has the fake ID and can get you beer for the upcoming semester. Also a good time to break in your liver and figure out where all the good parties are going to be.

Oh wait, it's your DAUGHTER going Brad; nevermind, I'm sure she won't be doing any of those things :)

 R

Ok, so we've got:

Ramon, Old Greg, Barry, Jerry, Eric, Allen, Jon, Al, Jason T, and possibly myself.

Anyone else going?

Andrea also wants to go i'm working out transportation for the two of us... it might just be me we are not sure.

Maybe i've got to go there that week also..... sounds like fun.

Who else is in for a party weekend at college.

Make our own version of Old School? Who's going to be Frank the Tank?
