Mudrack has a few of the chromo replacement that's 30 long splines at the locker end and 27 spline (right?) at the birf end. He wants around $200 for them.

Do you know if he's doing/done anything for the rear in a 40 or 70 series width with the long splines?

I found a used one for $300 shipped to my door - I feel like its a bit of a risk but what the hell, the third in my truck now has 180,000 "outback" miles on it and I've already had to retighten the pinion once. This "new" used unit probably won't be worse.

these should get you started:beer:

Do I need to drill and tap th new studs? If so, what tap size? Or this that only for the "other" elocker retrofits that I've seen online?

If you are planning on installing a Toyota electric locking differential assembly into an axle housing that originally did not have one, then yes, you will need to modify the housing. I am certain that someone out here has this process documented.

I had Poly Performance custom make a rear cro-moly rear axle for the 70 series rear axle housing. If you get the measurements, they will make you anything you want for the FF RAX that you have.

Here's the axle housing with the Poly axle shafts installed with a e-locker housing with the Downey Cable actuator on the rear axle. I'll be installing the axle next weekend and then I'm doing the front locker addition, similar to what Fast Eddy did on his 40.

I got my locker assemblies from Irbis Offroad in Colorado cuz I couldn't find any locker axles here on Eastern NC.:meh: They aren't new, but $12-1600 ain't worth it

I don't see where you've said it, but I'm guessing that you want to put a rear FJ80 locker in the front of your cruiser. That's what I did, and my remarks reflect that.

In the tech section, the best writeup I've seen, Ben Ferguson's, now has a bad link.

You'll have to drill the locker's flange to match your driveshaft flange.

These are the studs that I bought for my install:

P/N 90116-10074 x 4 $.62
P/N 90116-10075 x 3 $ .75
P/N 90116-10124 x 2 $2.17
P/N 90116-10167 x 1 $2.68

I used a gasket from the rear locker to use a guide for grinding out a space on the housing. It makes the install a lot simpler.

For me, making the controller was the hardest part.

actually, no, this is going in the rear of my 40 - i have a FF rear axle. thanks for the tips
